It is an object of the invention to provide a motor-driven compressor being fixable reliably to a vehicle or the like and being capable of reliably protecting elements accommodated in a housing even upon reception of an external force due to a collision by any possibility. A motor-driven compressor of the invention comprises a compression mechanism for compressing fluid, an electric motor for driving the compression mechanism, a motor drive circuit for driving the electric motor, and a housing. The housing accommodates the compression mechanism, the electric motor, and the motor drive circuit. A cover for protecting the housing from an external force caused by a collision is fixed to the outside of the housing. The cover is arranged via a clearance with respect to the housing, and absorbs the external force applied to the cover by the clearance.

A power transmission device includes a first one-way clutch that transmits a rotational power of a pulley to a rotating shaft, and a second one-way clutch that transmits a rotational power of a rotor of a motor to the rotating shaft. The first one-way clutch is of inner cam type in which an engagement cam-surface is formed in an outer periphery of a first inner ring, while the second one-way clutch is of outer cam type in which an engagement cam-surface is formed in an inner periphery of a second outer ring. This arrangement improves engagement performance of the first one-way clutch as well as reducing heat generation of the second one-way clutch, so that the lifetime of grease is prolonged.

Power transmission device

There is provided a one-way clutch unit that is simple in structure and compact. An annular recessis provided in an inner periphery of a side of a deep groove ball bearing portionof a first inner ringof a first one-way clutch, and an end portion on the side of a deep groove ball bearing portionof a second one-way clutchis disposed in the annular recess. Thereby, the dimension in an axial direction of the one-way clutch unit is reduced by a dimension in the axial direction of the second one-way clutchthat is disposed in the annular recess

A compressor provided with a torque limiter constructed such that, in view of possible occurrence of accidental locking of the compressor, in the case where a one-way clutch is used in place of an electromagnetic clutch in order to permit a refrigerant compressor for a vehicle air-conditioning system to be driven by an electric motor instead of an internal combustion engine, when an excessive torque is to be transmitted by the one-way clutch, rollers ride over wedge surfaces and fall into pocket sections, or sprags are reversed to roll-over.

There is provided a compact one-way clutch unit that can perform connection and disconnection of power in two systems. An end portion on a side of a deep groove ball bearing portionof a second one-way clutchis disposed in an annular recess, which is provided at an end portion in an inner peripheral surface of a first inner ring, so that the dimension in an axial direction of a one-way clutch unit is reduced. Further, an outer peripheral diameter on a side of the deep groove ball bearing portionis made smaller than that on the side of a one-way clutch portionof a second outer ringso as to reduce a diameter of the recessand the outer peripheral diameter of the first outer ringof the first one-way clutch

In this driving force transmission apparatus, with a simple constitution employing a one-way clutchinstead of an electromagnetic clutch, the driving force derived from the motorcan be transmitted to the rotating shaftduring engine stops, and the driving force of the engine can be transmitted to the rotating shaftduring engine operations. Also, the pulleyis held against the connecting portionand the fixed-side memberby means of first and second two ball bearingsdisposed axially adjacent to first and second inner cylinder portions, respectively, between which the opening portionof the pulleyis interposed. This simple driving force transmission apparatus can switch between transmission and non-transmission of driving force from pulley to rotating shaft, and transmits the driving force of a motor directly to the rotating shaft in the non-transmission state.

Driving force transmission apparatus

An air conditioner for air conditioning the interior of a compartment includes a compressor and an electric motor. The compressor compresses refrigerant gas and changes the displacement. The electric motor drives the compressor. A motor controller rotates the motor at a constant reference speed. A detection device detects information related to the thermal load on the air conditioner. A current sensor detects the value of current supplied to the electric motor. A controller controls the compressor based on the detected thermal load information and the detected current value. The controller computes a target torque of the compressor based on the thermal load information. In accordance with the computed target torque, the controller computes a target current value to be supplied to the electric motor. The controller further controls the displacement of the compressor such that the detected current value matches the target current value.
