The device and method displays still and moving images in which at least one icon is associated and displayed with each image on a screen. A single screen may contain several images which change over time. As the images change so do the icons associated with them. Upon selection of an icon by a viewer, the device and method will display one of several possible advertisements or information associated with the icon. The selection of which advertisement or piece of information is based on information stored about the viewer. This information would include data concerning the viewer's age, income, address and hobbies. A list of selections made by a viewer is maintained and may be displayed at the viewer's request. The system may also force the display of advertisements if desired by advertisers.

In an information sending and receiving system in which an information sending equipment and at least one information receiving equipment send and receive information through a transmission medium, a management message is sent from the information sending equipment to the information receiving equipment thereby to create a list of a content code expressing a data message registered on the information receiving equipment side within the information receiving equipment. Then, a data message containing a content code and data is transmitted from the information sending equipment to the information receiving equipment. The information receiving equipment selects a data message by comparing a content code of a data message and a list of its own content code. The content code list may be created within the information sending equipment based on a property value in an answer message from the information receiving equipment.

Information associated with broadcasting, information associated with a network, and information associated with a package are included in data. A terminal device has means for acquiring data from broadcasting, data from the network, and data from the package. The terminal device further has a means for displaying the data acquired by the above-mentioned means together or a means for displaying information included in the data as a link. This novel constitution allows positive information provision to users by a combination of three types of media, broadcasting, network, and package. At the same time, this novel constitution allows provision of new services by making the most of mass storage provided by package and up-to-date information provided over network.
