The image output apparatus includes an output unit that outputs content data indicating video content, and a control unit that controls the output unit to cause the output unit to output image data instead of or together with the content data when the output unit is outputting the content data. An optical head includes a blue-violet laser light source for emitting a blue-violet laser beam, a mirror with a diffraction grating for transmitting and reflecting the blue-violet laser beam at a predetermined ratio, and a front monitor sensor for receiving transmitted light or reflected light from the mirror with a diffraction grating and creating an APC signal for controlling an output of the blue-violet laser light source. The mirror with a diffraction grating includes a first surface which the blue-violet laser beam enters, and a second surface facing the first surface. The first surface and the second surface are mutually parallel. A reflecting coat for transmitting and reflecting the blue-violet laser beam at a predetermined ratio is formed on the first surface, and a diffraction grating is formed on the second surface.

An optical pickup device includes: a light source for emitting light in a first wavelength range; an optical element for transmitting the light; a supporting member for supporting the optical element through an adhesive; a first light blocking member for blocking the light emitted from the light source from entering the adhesive when the optical element guides the emitted light to the optical disc; and a second light blocking member for blocking the light reflected from the optical disc from entering the adhesive when the optical element guides the reflected light to the detector unit. In this optical pickup device, at least one of the first and second light blocking member blocks the light in the first wavelength range and transmits light in a second wavelength range.
