Provided is an antenna device with a simple configuration, said antenna device supporting a plurality of frequency bands. An antenna device according to the present invention is provided with: at least one first radiation element that is provided on one surface of a substrate and that has a resonant frequency in a first frequency band; at least one second radiation element provided on the one surface of the substrate; a connection line for connecting the first radiation element and the second radiation element on the one surface of the substrate; a conductor that is provided at a position facing the first radiation element in the interior of the substrate and that has a slot; and a power supply line for supplying power to the first radiation element via the slot. An antenna includes: a radiating element that is formed of a conductor and radiates electromagnetic waves when supplied with electrical power; and a parasitic element that is (i) formed of a conductor, (ii) provided near the radiating element so as to be electromagnetically coupled with the radiating element, (iii) provided in a plane substantially perpendicular to a plane including the radiating element, and (iv) guides the electromagnetic waves without being supplied with electrical power.

It is an object of the invention to provide a portable wireless apparatus capable of maintaining high quality of a communication in various using configurations obtained by a two-axis hinge mechanism. A portable wireless apparatus () having a two-axis hinge portion includes a first antenna () which is suitable for a talking state and a second antenna () which is suitable for a waiting state. The first antenna () or the second antenna () is selected based on a result of opening/closing detection decided from an angle &#x3b1; of a first axis () and the result of opening/closing detection decided from an angle &#x3b2; of a second axis (). There is provided a mobile telephone assuring a high reception sensitivity over a wide band without deteriorating the design of the mobile telephone. In the mobile telephone, a helical antenna () operating as an antenna for television reception is formed by winding a conductive element along the external surface of the case several times at the upper end of the upper case (). The helical antenna () is impedance-matched by a matching circuit () in a range of the order from 470 MHz to 700 MHz which is the television broadcast frequency. The matching circuit () is connected to a broadcast reception circuit (). The broadcast reception circuit () operates as a reception circuit for receiving the television broadcast wave.

A portable wireless device realizing high-speed transmission in downlink communication in a used state that a foldable portable wireless device is held in a hand of the user and ensuring a high antenna radiation efficiency. In the portable wireless device, platy conductors () are arranged in the longitudinal direction on the back of a display section () of an upper case (). The signal of a transmission circuit () is distributed by a power distributor ().
