A wire electrical discharge machine includes a first voltage applying circuit, a second voltage applying circuit, and a switch controller. The first voltage applying circuit includes a first DC power source for applying a positive polarity voltage across an electrode gap, and a first switch for on/off-switching of application of the positive polarity voltage. The second voltage applying circuit includes a second DC power source for applying a reverse polarity voltage to the electrode gap, and a second switch for on/off-switching of application of the reverse polarity voltage. The switch controller controls the first switch and the second switch so that the first switch and the second switch are not turned on simultaneously. The first DC power source and the second DC power source are set up so that the absolute value of the reverse polarity voltage is lower than the absolute value of the positive polarity voltage.

Wire electrical discharge machine

A wire electrical discharge machine includes: a multiple number of switching elements connected in parallel with each other and configured to supply the machining current to the electrode gap to perform electrical discharge machining; a multiple number of switches each connected in series with the associated one of the multiple switching elements and configured to cut off each of the multiple switching elements; and a control device configured to perform control when at least one of the multiple switching elements fails so as to disconnect the failed switching elements by means of the associated switches and also change the machining conditions in accordance with the number of the failed switching elements.

Wire electrical discharge machine and machining method

A wire electrical discharge machine is configured to perform removal machining of a workpiece by applying a voltage to a machining gap between a wire electrode and the workpiece through a feeder to generate electrical discharge and is provided with a feeder deterioration detection unit configured to detect deterioration of the feeder. The feeder deterioration detection unit includes a detection unit configured to detect a machining current value during the machining and a detection unit configured to detect the number of electrical discharges during the machining.

Whether or not an inter-electrode voltage exceeds a voltage threshold is determined after a predetermined inter-electrode state determination period has passed since application of an induction voltage (inter-electrode voltage) to an inter-electrode gap. Thus, an inter-electrode gap amount between a wire electrode and a work is estimated. A pause time during which electrical discharge is not performed is changed according to an estimation result of the inter-electrode gap amount.

In order to prevent a reduction in the rate of operation and malfunction due to dirt in a machining tank, a wire electric discharge machine configured to perform electric discharge machining in the machining tank is provided with a camera for capturing an image of the inside of the machining tank and determining unit for detecting dirt in the machining tank based on the image captured by the camera. The dirt in the machining tank is detected by the determining unit.

An electric discharge machine has a hand operation panel, which is provided with a manual pulse generator with a rotating part. The manual pulse generator generates a pulse signal corresponding to a rotation angle position of the rotating part. Further, the manual pulse generator outputs a move command for changing (i.e., increasing or decreasing) a relative distance between a tool electrode and a workpiece and commands for changing set values of machining conditions, based on the pulse signal from the manual pulse generator.

Contact detection apparatus for wire electrical discharge machine with capability to vary applied gap voltage

A power supply device for a wire electric discharge machine is provided with a main DC power source and an auxiliary DC power source with variable voltage. While first pulses are being output, a voltage from the main DC power source is applied to a machining gap between a wire electrode and a workpiece. While second pulses are being output with the output of the first pulses stopped, inductive energy stored by an inductance in a circuit is passed through the gap, and a voltage corresponding to a peak current value provided by the main DC power source is applied to the gap by the auxiliary DC power source. When the output of the second pulses is stopped, the inductive energy is returned to the main DC power source.
