A pulse measuring device includes: an image acquisition unit that acquires plural pieces of time-series photographed image data obtained by photographing a living body; an image processor that generates plural pieces of transformed image data corresponding to the plural pieces of photographed image data by performing a multiple resolution analysis on each of the plural pieces of photographed image data a plurality of times, each of the plural pieces of photographed image data being decomposed into a high-resolution component and a low-resolution component on the multiple resolution analysis; and a pulse measuring unit that calculates a feature quantity indicating luminance of a predetermined area in each of the plural pieces of transformed image data, calculates a variation period of the feature quantity by analyzing time-series data of the feature quantity, and calculates a pulse of the living body based on the variation period of the feature quantity.

A storage device in which file data is divided into multiple blocks for storage on a recording medium is provided. A system and method for implementing a boot recovery on a data processing system. According to an embodiment of the present invention, at least one processor compares contents of a first read-only memory (ROM) image and a second ROM image outputted from a memory. The first ROM image is initially selected to boot a data processing system utilizing a first basic input output system (BIOS) program. In response to determining that contents of the first ROM image and the second ROM image are different, the second ROM image is selected. The data processing system boots utilizing the second BIOS program stored by the second ROM image.

Processing a coded signal formed so that multiple signal points, having individual signal values consonant with coded values, are arranged in accordance with a predetermined order. A signal restoration unit calculates an average value for signal values at signal points immediately preceding and following a predetermined signal point. The predetermined signal point comprises the coded signal. The signal restoration unit calculates, for selected preceding signal points, a signal value difference for the two selected signal points, and obtains first difference values. A method and system for rewriting data on a tape when an error occurs during an initial write operation. When the initial write error occurs, the data is rewritten at a location that is a pre-defined block gap distance from the last valid write location on the tape. By measuring the length of the pre-defined block gap distance, the cause or causes of the write error or errors are known. Thus, the pre-defined block gap not only ensures that the data is not re-written in a no-write zone of the tape, due to the zone known to be error prone, but a historical record of past write errors is logged based on the length of the block gaps.

More specifically, the servo pattern is read from the tape in the cartridge inserted into the tape drive, frequency analysis for the read servo pattern is performed, a singularity that exceeds a predetermined spectrum range is detected from frequency components obtained by the frequency analysis, and the coefficients of the low-pass filter are set so as to cancel a power spectrum of the singularity.
