The present invention is directed to a rough rolling mill for rolling a slab of material into a rough bar through a hot rolling process. The rolling mill reduces material temperature drop thereby preventing a decrease in productivity. The rolling mill train for producing a rough bar from a slab of material has at least two close mill couples at an outlet side thereof. Each close mill couple is composed of two rolling mills arranged in tandem close to one another to roll the material. The at least two close mill couples are arranged so that the material being rolled is not acted upon by adjacent close mill couples at the same time.

Rough rolling mill train

The apparatus is formed by confronting wide side mold walls and confronting narrow side mold walls, The narrow side mold walls are composed of an electrically conductive refractory material and are directly heated. Each of the narrow side mold walls include an upper squeezed portion and a lower parallel portion, The upper squeezed portion has a surface in contact with the molten metal which converges in width along a casting direction. The lower parallel portion has surface in contact with the molten metal which is substantially uniform in width.

Apparatus for and method of continuous casting

The integrated manufacturing system is formed by the combination of a continuous casting apparatus and hot rolling mills. The continuous casting apparatus is formed by confronting wide side mold walls and confronting narrow side mold walls. The narrow side mold walls are composed of an electrically conductive refractory material and are directly heated. Each of the narrow side mold walls include an upper squeezed portion and a lower parallel portion. The upper squeezed portion has a surface in contact with the molten metal which converges in width along a casting direction. Integrated manufacturing system

In a continuous process for continuous casting and hot-rolling of metal sheet, off-line storage of a slab takes place in a thermally insulated storage chamber located alongside a thermally insulated zone through which the slab lengths travel in the production line between a cutter for the slab and the hot-rolling mill train. On stoppage of the hot-rolling mill train, at least one slab length is transferred laterally to the off-line thermally insulated storage chamber. To improve ductility, an induction heating stage is combined with a subsequent temperature-maintaining stage in the furnace for homogenization of temperature within the slab. Both these stages are performed on the slab at its casting thickness.

Method and apparatus for continuous casting and hot-rolling

A leveling device for correcting defective shape of a strip by repeatedly bending the strip under a tensioned condition of the strip, comprising a tension leveler including a stretching roll unit for correcting local elongations of the strip and a C-warp correcting roll unit for correcting the warp in the crosswise direction of the strip, and at least a tension fluctuation suppressing means for suppressing the tension fluctuation transferred from the bridle rolls and preventing the generation of charter mark. In this invention, a reversing roughing mill and a reversing finishing mill are disposed at such a distance that a material can reach the finishing mill only in the final pass of roughing, can thus prevent damage to and surface deterioration of finishing rolls in the roughing pass, can reduce the heat loss of the material located between the roughing mill and finishing mill and can produce a strip having excellent surface quality. In the present invention, a continuous casting plant and a hot rolling plant are connected to each other by a furnace having reheating and soaking functions and a heat retaining box for accumulating slabs is disposed adjacent to this furnace. Therefore, even when rolling is stopped due to any trouble with the rolling plant and extraction of the slab from the furnace to the rolling plant cannot be made, the continuous casting plant can continue to cast the slab without stopping its operation and the cast slabs are accumulated in the heat retaining box and the accumulated slabs can be heated by the furnace and can be extracted to the rolling plant before the next pouring by a ladle.

Hot strip plant

A side wall construction for a continuous belt caster includes a metallic side wall body and a refractory layer attached on the central portion of the side wall body. The metallic side wall body has side edge portion extending substantially in flush with the the surface of the refractory layer. The refractory layer is formed with a center projection of essentially triangular cross-section. The height of the peak of the projection is gradually decreased toward downstream of transfer direction of the liquidus and solidus metal. On the other hand, it may be possible to formulate the refractory layer as double layer construction of a heat insulating refractory layer and a wear-resistantive refractory layer.

Side wall construction for continuous belt caster

In a continuous hot rolling system, at least one melt-cut torch is set in a predetermined positional relationship with respect to a trailing end of a preceding hot material and a leading end of an adjacent succeeding hot material. An injected flow of cutting gas from the melt-cut torch is blown against a portion of at least one of the trailing end of the preceding material and the leading end of the succeeding material to melt-cut the portion. The portion extends from an end surface of the one end over a predetermined length. The trailing end of the preceding material and the leading end of the succeeding material are forced against each other and are butt-joined to each other. By doing so, there are produced joining surfaces superior in surface accuracy and high in temperature, to allow joining to be high in accuracy and strength. This joining may be made with respect to slabs before rough rolling, or may be made with respect to bars after rough rolling. Further, a slab manufactured by a continuous casting machine are reduced in thickness at a plurality of desired locations to form a plurality of thickness-reduced portions. Cutting is made at the thickness-reduced portions. The cut thickness-reduced portions are joined to each other. Furthermore, the ends of the respective materials after having been cut are reduced in thickness with the ends abutted against each other to form thickness-reduced portions. The thickness-reduced portions are joined to each other.

Method of and apparatus for joining hot materials to be rolled to each

A high speed pickling device for causing a thin plate to travel in acid fluid and removing through pickling oxidized scales which are formed on the surfaces of the thin plate, a plurality of weir members which dam wakes of the acid fluid flowing along the surfaces of the thin plate over substantially the entire width of the thin plate are provided in the traveling direction of the thin plate with a predetermined interval and close to the thin plate. The weir members are provided close to the surfaces of the thin plate for damming and stripping off wakes of the acid fluid flowing along the surface of the thin plate at the inlet sides of these weir members, the acid fluid is caused to deflect in the opposite direction away from the thin plate, and fresh acid fluid is sucked onto its surface at the outlet sides of the weir members along with the traveling of the thin plate. According to the present invention indicated above, by providing the weir members close to the thin plate, wakes of the acid fluid which flows along the thin plate is dammed and the most part thereof is stripped off from the thin plate. This stripped acid fluid flows in an opposite direction away from the thin plate and is drained along the weir members. The remaining wakes which were not stripped off by the weir members pass through a narrow clearance between the thin plate and the weir members and proceeds to the outlet sides of the weir members in the form of thin layered wakes. At the outlet sides of the weir members thickness of the wakes along the thin plate again tends to increase and fresh acid fluid is sucked to increase the wake thickness. By these draining and sucking of the acid fluid, replacement of the acid fluid is surely performed and pickling effect is enhanced and the pickling time is shortened.

High speed pickling device and high speed pickling method

A plate-like rolled material fed from a continuous casting equipment is rolled by a vertical mill for width control. A pair of horizontal mills are disposed one on each of the entry side and the delivery side of the vertical mill. Both the horizontal mills are controlled in their speeds to impart a predetermined tensile force to the rolled material without effecting thickness control of the rolled material. The roll speed of the horizontal mill disposed on the delivery side is controlled to be higher than that of the horizontal mill disposed on the entry side. This enables preventing of failure in the shape of the rolled material.

Method for controlling plate material hot rolling equipment

When a strip of e.g. hot steel is rolled by a rolling or roughing mill, scale develops on the surface of the strip which must be removed. The strip is passed over a bending roller which bends the strip and causes cracks in the scale. Then water is injected onto the strip to wash the roller and lift of the scale. Inertia then causes the water and scale to leave the surface of the strip and pass to a collection device whose water collecting surface is out of contact with the strip and on the opposite side of the bending roller from where the water is injected. In this way the time of contact of the water with the strip can be kept short and the strip is not damaged by contact with the collection device.

Descaling rolled material

A continuous casting machine is directly coupled to a rolling facility has many machines in a series including the rolling machine disposed downstream of the continuous casting machine. When one of the machines is stopped, the slab is still continuously produced by the continuous casting machine, but is sheared on the upstream side of the rolling machine and coiled in its hot state rather than rolled. Even though the rolling operation is interrupted, all of the slab being produced by the continuous casting machine is coiled so that the molten metal produced for the casting is not wasted. After the machine that has shut the line down is able to be restarted, the slab that has been stored in its hot state is uncoiled and supplied to the downstream machines.

Method of and apparatus for rolling directly coupled with continuous

A rolling installation comprises a continuous casting machine, and a light thickness-reduction rolling mill, a width-reduction rolling mill and a thickness-reduction rolling mill which are arranged downstream of the continuous casting machine. The light thickness-reduction rolling mill is driven with a power lower than that required for thickness-reduction rolling by the light thickness-reduction rolling mill. The power deficiency is supplied to the light thickness-reduction rolling mill by the thickness-reduction rolling mill through the cast strip. As a result, a longitudinal tension is applied to the cast strip passing through the width-reduction rolling mill, thereby preventing the cast strip from being buckled and deformed at the width-reduction rolling.

Rolling installation for and rolling method of continuous cast strip

A roller for rolling mill comprising an entirely non-metallic sintered body composed principally of at least one material selected from silicon carbide, silicon nitride, sialon, alumina and zirconia and having a relative density which is at least 96% of the theoretical density, the roller having an initial crown in the range of -300 .mu.m to +300 .mu.m, is provided. This roller for rolling mill has a high hardness and high wear resistance and can be used as a work roll.
