A communications device for interfacing a computer to a cellular telephone which includes memory, voicemail, caller identification and a display screen includes a housing accessible to a human operator, a telephone interface attached to the housing to communicatively connect to the cellular telephone, a telephone connection to connect to a telephone line; and means for uploading the voicemail of the cellular telephone via the telephone connection and telephone interface to the memory of the cellular telephone. Attaching the cellular telephone to the telephone interface actuates the uploading of the voicemail of the cellular telephone to the memory of the cellular telephone for display in the display screen of the cellular telephone.

A computer system with a remote television display converts output signals from a computer to video signals to be displayed on at least one television set and transmits the output signals from the computer along with broadcast and cable video signals to the at least one television set so that one or more televisions may be used as remote display devices. The system includes a computer for generating an output signal and for receiving an input signal, a television broadcast source for generating first multichannel television signal, a signal converter for receiving the output signal and converting it to a first channel television signal, the signal converter also for receiving the first multichannel television signal, the converter outputting at least part of the first multichannel television signal and the first channel television signal as a second multichannel television signal, a television for receiving the second multichannel television signal and displaying one channel of the second multichannel television signal and an input device located remote from the computer for transmitting input signals to the computer.

The present invention provides an automatic preconditioning connection device and method for automatically optimizing and coupling a selected external peripheral device to a computer. The automatic preconditioning connection device is coupled, either directly or in daisy-chain fashion, to a plurality of external peripheral devices and also is coupled to the computer. The automatic preconditioning device includes a plurality of automatic peripheral preconditioning buttons that launch, optimize and control at least one external peripheral device selected from a plurality of external peripheral devices by automatically configuring a programmable digital signal processor or processor using predetermined software or predetermined parameters that are downloaded from the computer upon activation of the selected launch button and activating a graphic user interface of the computer. The device and method may include, upon activation of a selected launch button and automatic downloading of predetermined software or parameters, the optimized use of a microphone for voice recognition operation or voice control of the selected peripheral.

A computer peripheral device for voice and synthesized voice communication is disclosed. The device serves in place of a telephone handset, in a telephone mode of operation, and as a remote-control computer-based media center in a voice control mode of operation, without requiring the use of headphones. Thus the device frees integrated multimedia and voice-command computer control operations from the physical limitations of the workstation, with its keyboard and CRT. The device also integrates telephone communication functions, including caller ID into a computer remote control interface, thereby providing modal flexibility, minimizing disruption and increasing operator efficiency.

The enclosure directs low end frequencies into a mixing chamber which directs these frequencies out through a central exit port, thereby providing clearer base response without sacrificing psychoacoustic directionality.
