A drilling tool includes a drill body having chip channel formed therein and carrying cutting inserts at front ends of respective chip channels. Disposed in the chip channels at a location spaced from the cutting insert are respective damping elements. Each damping element comprises first and second portions formed of respective materials of different rigidity.

A spiral drill includes a rear shank portion; a front tip; and a spiral (helical) middle portion extending therebetween. Spiral ribs are formed in the middle portion, and coolant channels extend through the drill to the tip for conducting coolant fluid. The coolant channels form exit openings in the tip which are spaced at different radial distances from a centerline of the drill. Each coolant channel extends spirally through a respective rib, and the portion of each coolant channel disposed in the shank is straight. Those straight portions are spaced by different radial distances from the centerline.

A drill for drilling in metal with improved performance in the smaller diameter range. The drill comprises a drill shaft, the front end of which is provided with radially outer and radially inner inserts, each insert having elongated rhomboidic shape, in which each of the short sides is broken at its middle to form a V-shape having an internal obtuse angle. The inserts are arranged such that the longitudinal axis of the radially outer insert is inclined at an angle from the longitudinal axis that is different from the angle of inclination between the longitudinal axis of the radially inner insert and the longitudinal axis of the drill.

The invention provides a milling cutter for machining metal workpieces and a cartridge therefor. The milling cutter comprises a plurality of peripheral recesses for the receipt of insert-equipped cartridges. One of the walls of said recess is provided by two arms integral with the milling cutter body that each by means of a screw is arranged to clamp the cartridge against one wall in said recess. The cartridge is provided with two bores having suitable clearance for the receipt of said screws.

A rock drill bit of the impact type comprising a boring head, a shaft having ridges, a front surface and a number of peripherally spaced holes receiving inserts, said holes extending forwardly and outwardly at an acute angle .phi. with respect to the center line of the drill bit. The guiding surface of the insert mainly coincides with the jacket surface of the bit body when the insert has been fixed in the hole which emerges into both the jacket surface and the front surface of the bit body. This means that the guiding surface partly extends on both sides of the plane of the front surface.
