A reel-up in which paper is reeled up on reeling drums to form paper reels is provided. The reel-up comprises two stand members provided with stand rails to support the reeling drum. A secondary system consisting of first and second secondary units for receipt of new reeling drums is provided adjacent to the stand members. Each secondary unit comprises a first and a second secondary member, each arranged adjacent one of the stand members. Both secondary members of each secondary unit are arranged at the outer sides of the stand members so that the deleterious effects of paper dust, etc. between the stand members are eliminated.

Reel-up

A uniformly wound parent roll of soft, high bulk tissue has greater uniformity in sheet basis weight, machine direction stretch and bulk when compared to parent rolls wound by conventional winding methods. The method involves carrying the tissue sheet on a relatively air impermeable transfer belt which traverses an unsupported span between two winding drums. The sheet is transferred from the transfer belt to the parent roll as the parent roll is urged against the sheet/transfer belt at a point within the unsupported span. The resulting deflection of the transfer belt is detected and, in response, the reel spool position is controllably changed to maintain the deflection within predetermined limits. The tension of the sheet is controlled by the predetermined differential speed between the outer most surface of the parent roll and the transfer belt.

Parent roll for tissue paper

An apparatus and method for winding tissue webs into a parent roll is disclosed which results in greater uniformity in sheet basis weight, machine direction stretch and bulk when comparing the corresponding sheet properties taken from representative locations throughout the roll. The apparatus and method includes engaging the tissue web against a reel spool with a flexible member such as a transfer belt which traverses an unsupported span between two support rolls. The web is transferred from the transfer belt to the parent roll as the parent roll is urged against the sheet/transfer belt at a point within the unsupported span. The resulting deflection of the transfer belt is detected and, in response, the reel spool position is changed to control the deflection at a desired level. Accordingly, a predetermined light nip pressure can be applied to the roll as the tissue web is wound thereon and large parent rolls of high bulk tissue can be manufactured with desired properties when unwound.

Apparatus and method for winding paper

A reel-up in which paper is reeled up on reeling drums to form paper reels, said reel-up having two parallel stand members; a surface winding mechanism in the form of a rotating surface winding drum and/or a belt to carry the web and deliver it to one of said reeling drums or a paper reel formed or being formed thereon; and a secondary system including first and second secondary units for alternate receipt of new reeling drums. Each secondary unit, includes an outer first secondary member and an inner second secondary member, each of the secondary members having a linearly movable secondary body, an actuator for moving the secondary body, and a press device to maintain a predetermined linear pressure in the nip between the surface winding means and the paper reel as it increases in size. Each secondary body includes a bottom plate and a pivot unit pivotably journalled in a journalling element for turning between a position folded up from the bottom plate for collection of an empty reeling drum and a production position folded down to the bottom plate for reeling the web.
