A power cable comprising: a power core including: a conductor, an insulation system including an inner semiconducting layer arranged around the conductor, an insulation layer arranged around the inner semiconducting layer, and an outer semiconducting layer arranged around the insulation layer, a first metallic water blocking layer arranged concentrically with and around the outer semiconducting layer, a semiconducting polymer layer arranged concentrically with and around the first metallic water blocking layer, and a second metallic water blocking layer arranged concentrically with and around the semiconducting polymer layer; and an outer sheath arranged around the second metallic water blocking layer.

Power cable with multiple water barriers

A method of building a joint insulation of a power cable joint including a conductor joint connecting a first conductor of a first cable length to a second conductor of second cable length, the method including: a) winding a first electrically insulating tape around an inner semiconducting layer that covers the conductor joint so that the first electrically insulating tape connects a first cable length insulation layer of the first cable length to a second cable length insulation layer of the second cable length, to form an inner insulation layer of the joint insulation, and b) winding a second electrically insulating tape around the inner insulation layer, so that the second electrically insulating tape connects the first cable length insulation layer to the second cable length insulation layer, to form an outer insulation layer of the joint insulation, wherein the first electrically insulating tape has a higher peroxide content than the second electrically insulating tape, and c) crosslinking the joint insulation.

Method of jointing a power cable

A high voltage DC power cable designed for voltages of 320 kV or higher, including: a multi-wire conductor, an inner semiconducting layer arranged around the multi-wire conductor, the inner semiconducting layer forming a screen layer for the multi-wire conductor, a solid insulation system arranged around the inner semiconducting layer, and a water-blocking compound configured to restrict water migration into the high voltage DC power cable.

HVDC power cable with water-blocking capability

An extruded high voltage cable including a conductor with at least three concentric layers of helically wound metal wires, an extruded inner conducting layer surrounding the conductor, and an extruded electrical insulation arranged outside the inner conducting layer. The two outermost layers of the conductor have the same lay direction.
