A communications cable that may be used in buildings in concealed areas such as riser shafts is constructed of non-halogen materials. The core includes insulated conductors that are enclosed with a plastic, polyolefin insulating material. These insulated conductors are twisted into pairs to form a multi-pair core. The core is surrounded and protected with a non-halogen, plastic jacket material. The cable has exceptional voice and data transmission properties due to the polyolefin insulation and is highly flame retardant. Compared with halogenated materials, the cable generates relatively little smoke, is less corrosive, and generates less toxic gases when burned.

Fire resistant non-halogen riser cable

A low pair count high performance, TIA/EIA 568 Category 5 plenum rated cable has a core made up of a plurality of twisted pairs of conductors, each conductor being insulated with a tetrafluoroethylene/hexafluoropropylene copolymer material, and a single twisted pair of conductors wherein each conductor is insulated with a high density polyethylene material. The core is surrounded and enclosed in a jacket of a plasticized copolymer of ethylene and clorotriflouoroethylene material.

Fire resistant cable for use in local area networks

A cable which may be used in buildings in concealed areas such as in plenums or in riser shafts includes a core (22) which in a metallic conductor cable includes at least twenty-five transmission media each of which is enclosed with a non-halogenated plastic material. The core is enclosed with a jacket (28) which also is made of a non-halogenated plastic material. The non-halogenated plastic material of the insulation is selected from the group consisting of a polyetherimide and a silicone-polyimide copolymer, or a blend comprising the polyetherimide and the silicone-polyimide copolymer. For the jacket, the plastic material includes a blend composition of silicone-polyimide copolymer and a flame retardant and smoke suppressant system comprising titanium dioxide and zinc borate.

High count transmission media plenum cables which include

A cable which may be used in buildings in concealed areas such as in plenums or in riser shafts includes a core (22) which includes at least one transmission medium each of which is enclosed with a non-halogenated plastic composition of matter. The core is enclosed with a jacket (28) which also is made of a non-halogenated plastic composition. The non-halogenated plastic material of the insulation includes a polyetherimide constituent and an additive system. The additive system includes an antioxidant/thermal stabilizer and a synergistic metal deactivator and may include a lubricant. For the jacket, the plastic material is a composition which may include a siloxane/polyimide copolymer constituent blended with a polyetherimide constituent and an additive system to improve processing and long term aging, or a siloxane/polyimide copolymer constituent with a flame retardant system.

Cables which include non-halogenated plastic materials

A cable which may be used in buildings in concealed areas such as in plenums or in riser shafts includes a core (22) which includes at least one transmission medium which is enclosed with a non-halogenated plastic material. The core is enclosed with a jacket (28) which also is made of a non-halogenated plastic material. The non-halogenated plastic material of the insulation is selected from the group consisting of a polyetherimide and a silicone-polyimide copolymer, or a blend comprising the polyetherimide and the silicone-polyimide copolymer. For the jacket, the plastic material includes a silicone-polyimide copolymer.

Plenum cables which include non-halogenated plastic materials

A cable which may be used in buildings in riser shafts includes a core (22) which includes at least one transmission medium which is enclosed in a non-halogenated plastic material. The core is enclosed with a jacket (29) which also is made of a non-halogenated plastic material. The non-halogenated material which encloses the transmission medium is a plastic material selected from the group consisting of a filled polyolefin, a polyphenylene oxide, a polyetherimide and a silicone-polyimide copolymer, and blend compositions of a polyetherimide and a silicone-polyimide copolymer. For the jacket, the plastic material comprises a filled polyolefin.

Building riser cable

A plenum cable (20) includes a core (22) comprising at least one transmission medium such as a metallic conductor. The metallic conductor is insulated with a layer (27) of a plastic composition of material which includes a non-halogenated constituent such as, for example, a polyetherimide. Covering the insulated metallic conductor is a jacket (39) comprising a halogenated material such as a fluoropolymer. The cable exhibits excellent flame retardant properties as well as acceptable levels of corrosion and toxicity.

Plenum cable which includes halogenated and non-halogenated plastic

A cable which may be used in buildings in concealed areas such as in plenums or in riser shafts includes a core (22) which includes at least one transmission medium which is enclosed in a non-halogenated plastic material. The core is enclosed with a jacket (28) which also is made of a non-halogenated plastic material. The non-halogenated material which encloses the transmission medium and the jacket is a plastic material selected from the group consisting of a filled polyolefin, a polyetherimide and a silicone-polyimide copolymer, and blend compositions of a polyetherimide and a silicone-polyimide copolymer. Interposed between the core and the jacket is a thermal barrier which includes a plastic film which is selected from the group consisting of a polyetherimide, a silicone-polyimide copolymer, a polyimide, and blend compositions of a polyetherimide and a silicone-polyimide copolymer.

Building cables which include non-halogenated plastic materials

A multi-unit telecommunication cable is disclosed in which the twisted wire pairs of the unit are presented adjacent the conductive cable sheath at irregularly spaced locations. The cable may be made by modulating the amplitude and/or frequency of the oscillations of the faceplate employed in twisting the wire pairs together in forming the cable units.
