Methods, apparatuses, and systems are provided for modem coordination. A method may include establishing a coordinated communication session with a base station on a first communication channel. The method may further include causing transmission, to the base station, of an indication of an occurrence of an irregular transmission of data on a second communication channel. The second communication channel may be with a station logically separated from the base station. The base station maybe configured to respond to the indication of the occurrence of the irregular transmission by modifying transmission on the first communication channel to avoid interfering with the irregular transmission. The method may additionally include causing transmission, to the base station, of an indication of completion of the irregular transmission to allow the base station to resume normal transmission on the first communication channel. Corresponding apparatuses and systems are also provided.

Systems, methods, and apparatuses for modem coordination

Provided are apparatuses and methods for detecting neighboring cells in a communication network based on Transmission Parameter Signaling (TPS) bits received in a signaling frame. In one example, a signaling frame contains a field of TPS bits that indicate a type of the signaling frame. The type of the signaling frame may indicate the information carried in the signaling frame as information of a current cell or a neighboring cell. The signaling frame may further include information from a neighboring cell in the same network or a different network as the current cell. The signaling frame may further be arranged in a superframe in which the a plurality of frames are transmitted to a receiver in a certain sequence. Each frame in a superframe or a sequence of frames may include a parameter for defining the location of the frame.

Method and system for signaling neighboring signals in TPS bits

In a digital broadband broadcast transmitter, digital data is time interleaved for transmission, and the time interleaved digital data is transmitted in a digital broadband broadcast transmission towards a plurality of receivers. A cellular transmitter is operated in an apparatus. In the same apparatus, the digital broadband broadcast transmission transmitted by the digital broadband broadcast transmitter is received, and the received digital broadband broadcast transmission is time deinterleaved.

Aspects of the invention are directed to service discovery in a digital broadcast network. A service discovery descriptor, which may be electronic service guide-provider and cell specific, provides mapping between a service identifier, a logical channel identifier, and a physical channel, which may be characterized by a frame identifier and a slot identifier, that is, each physical channel may have one or more slots within one or more frames. A neighboring service discovery descriptor provides mapping for the service available within neighboring cells. Aspects of the invention are directed to an encapsulation protocol that encapsulates variable length data, including, but not limited to, the service discovery descriptor and the neighboring service discovery descriptor, into fixed length data stream packets.

Service discovery mechanism in broadcast telecommunication network

The invention is directed to efficient transfer of low bit rate services in a communication system. A synchronization symbol which has known characteristics may be included as a first symbol of digital broadcast frames. The synchronization symbol, which can be decoded without having to resort to trial and error methods, contains parameters for the rest of the signal. Low bit rate services are allocated to time slots following the pilot symbol used for synchronization allowing for fast access times with maximum power saving capabilities. A user terminal wakes up just before the synchronization symbol and received the data allocated for the low bit rate services. The user terminal may power off for the remaining time slots which are allocated for higher bit services to conserve power.

In accordance with an embodiment, a best-effort service is divided into packets for best-effort digital broadcast transmission. The packets are encapsulated with an encapsulation protocol that uses a packet order defining field. The encapsulated packets are inserted into an unused portion of a slot of a digital broadcast transmission frame. Then, the encapsulated packets are repeatedly inserted into the unused portion of the slot of the digital broadcast transmission frame in a packet-carousel fashion. And the transmission frame is digitally broadcast. In accordance with an embodiment, a digital broadcast transmission is received. Encapsulated packets that have been repeatedly broadcast in a packet-carousel fashion are accessed from a best-effort portion of a digital broadcast transmission frame slot. And a best-effort service is composed from the encapsulated packets by combining the encapsulated packets in an order based on a packet order defining field of the encapsulated packets.

Providing best effort services via a digital broadcast network using data encapsulation

A method, a system, a transmitter and a receiver for identification of a time sliced elementary streams using PSI/SI tables. This identification provides a way to separate time-sliced elementary stream from non-time-sliced elementary streams by defining two descriptors in PSI/SI tables. A time slice identifier descriptor is defined, which can be used to identify elementary streams which are time sliced. This descriptor is also used to provide additional information about the transmitted elementary streams. The invention provides a way to announce additional information of the time sliced elementary streams via PSI/SI tables. Additionally, it provides a mechanism to categorize single elementary stream(s) as non-time sliced and time sliced. A way to identify time sliced elementary streams carried over DVB networks is disclosed and providing additional information on those streams. This can be done by using the time slice identifier descriptor. The descriptor can be used at least in Network Information Table (NIT), Program Map Table (PMT) and IP/MAC Notification Table (INT) tables. Time slicing provides a way to save power in the receiver in broadband transmission.

Method, system and network entity for providing digital broadband transmission

A terrestrial digital video broadcasting (DVB-T) network is used to transmit IP datagrams to receiving devices using multiprotocol encapsulation (MPE). MPE datagram section and, if forward error correction (FEC) is used, MPE-FEC datagram sections may include time-slicing parameters, such as a 'delta-t' parameter for specifying a time until the next burst is transmitted and a flag for indicating the end of a burst. Thus, MPE and MPE-FEC datagram sections can be transmitted in bursts. Other types of sections, however, do not include such time-slicing parameters and thus cannot usually be transmitted in bursts. Nevertheless, by assembling a burst including at least one MPE or MPE-FEC datagram section which specifies delta-t and MPE or MPE-FEC datagram section at the end of a burst which indicates its position, other types of sections can benefit from being transmitted in bursts.

Aspects of the invention are directed to service and channel discovery in a digital broadcast network. A pilot synchronization symbol, which has known characteristics, is included as a first symbol of digital broadcast frames. The pilot symbol, which can be decoded without having to resort to trial and error methods, contains parameters for the rest of the signal. So, the rest of the signal can be decoded without trial and error methods after the pilot symbol (and any additional synchronization symbols) is decoded. Channels containing digital video broadcast services can be efficiently detected using the known part of the signal. If the fixed known part is not found from the examined signal, then the signal will be considered a non-digital-video-broadcast signal or an empty channel, and the receiver can promptly proceed to a next channel/frequency. In this way, detecting non-digital-video-broadcast and empty channels becomes relatively fast.

Digital broadcast service discovery correlation

A method is performed in a receiver including a number of modules. The method includes receiving information in a reception frequency band. Responsive to a notification from a transmitter of a transmission in a predetermined transmission frequency band, at least one countermeasure is performed by at least one of the modules. The at least one countermeasure is predetermined to reduce an effect of interference caused by transmission on reception of the information in the reception frequency band. Countermeasures include freezing an automatic gain control loop, freezing a synchronization loop, discarding channel estimation data, and blanking received information. Transmission power and transmission mode are also used to determine whether and how many countermeasures are used. Additionally, handover is improved by waiting until transmission is complete to determine receiver signal strength of signals from potential transmitters for handover.

Interoperability improvement in terminals having a transmitter interfering with a receiver

The invention relates to a method for correcting an IQ-imbalance (In-phase and Quadrature) of an IQ-based direct conversion receiver (). In the method a group of radio frequency pilot signals are received in the direct conversion receiver (). They are conveyed to an in-phase branch and a quadrature-phase branch of the receiver () and mixed, in the analogue domain, to form a baseband in-phase (I) and quadrature-phase (Q) signal components. The signal componets are conveyed to a digital demodulator () which detects the IQ-phase imbalance of the direct conversion receiver () by analysing at least one of the baseband in-phase (I) and the quadrature-phase (Q) signal components. In the method, the detected IQ-imbalance is corrected, in the analogue domain of the direct conversion receiver (), to achieve a 90 degrees phase difference between a future baseband in-phase (I) signal component and a future baseband quadrature-phase (Q) signal component.
