The future state can be presented with respect to a failed link and restoration of traffic on the failed link. The future state can include a plurality of plans with a visualization showing how much of the traffic is restored based on different approaches to the capacity mining. The capacity mining can include configuring optical modems based on determined available excess capacity.

A network management system includes a network interface communicatively coupled to one or more network elements in a network for exchanging Operations, Administration, Maintenance, and Provisioning (OAM&P) data; a processor communicatively coupled to the network interface; and memory storing instructions that, when executed, cause the processor to obtain the OAM&P data from the network, provide a Graphical User Interface (GUI) based on the network from the OAM&P data, wherein the GUI includes a network map which provides a topological view and a subway view which provides a detailed device-level view which is more granular than the network map and illustrates individual components at each site, receive a selection from a user of a service in the network, and update the GUI to highlight the service in the network map and illustrate the associated sites in the subway view.

Systems and methods for displaying a localization of one or more anomalies in a fiber optic network are provided. In one implementation, a system includes a processing device and a memory device. The memory device is configured to store an anomaly localization module having logic instructions, which, when executed, cause the processing device to display, on a Graphical User Interface (GUI), Network Elements (NEs) and physical fiber plant links of a fiber optic network on a generalized geographical map. This invention provides an improved graphical user interface (GUI) for optical network administration. The GUI allows a user to view a network topology in which only those nodes at which channel traffic may be added to and/or dropped from a muxed signal are displayed. The GUI also provides a view of optical components through which data is transmitted on a selected route, and a view of the individual channels which comprise the selected route. Finally, the GUI allows the user to view information relating to transmitters and receivers associated with the channel signals being transmitted along the selected route.

A method, apparatus, computer-readable media and user interface for annunciating problems in a system. The method involves producing signals for concurrently indicating a plurality of system problems and problem priority information associated with the system problems based on data representing system conditions. Such signals may be used to drive a display device. Operator input signals may be received to permit selection of a particular problem for which details are provided. The indication of priority information assists a system manager or operator to quickly prioritize system problems according to different perspectives provided by different priority information. Optionally, the operator can also view any of the detailed information related to the particular system problem, which may include alarm information, performance degradation information, service violation information, or penalties or lost income, for example.
