A battery capable of improving the energy density and improving the battery characteristics such as cycle characteristics and high temperature storage characteristics. A cathode and an anode are oppositely arranged with a separator in between. The open circuit voltage in full charge is in the range from 4.25 V to 6.00 V. The separator has a base material layer and a surface layer. The surface layer opposed to the cathode is formed from at least one from the group consisting of polyvinylidene fluoride, polytetrafluoroethylene, polypropylene, and aramid.

Battery

A battery in which a cathode and an anode are arranged so as to face each other an having a separator in between is provided. The separator is formed from a plurality of laminated microporous membranes and has a film thickness of 10x &#x3bc;m and a piercing strength of 150x gf or more, where 1&#x2266;x&#x2266;2. The air permeability of one layer among the plurality of microporous membranes is equal to or larger than 10% of the air permeability of the whole separator.

Separator and battery

Disclosed is a nonaqueous electrolyte battery including a battery element contained in an outer covering member composed of a laminated film and sealed therein by heat seal, and a gas absorbable material interposed between the outermost layer of the outer covering member and the battery element. Such a battery is advantageous in that even if gas occurs in the battery element, the laminated film as the outer covering member is prevented from being swelled.

Nonaqueous electrolyte battery

A proton conductor or a single ion conductor having high conductivity and a broad operation temperature range, manufacturing methods thereof and an electrochemical capacitor using it are provided. A compound having a structural part of Chemical formula 1 and a compound having a structure of Chemical formula 2 are included. X represents a protoic dissociation group, R1 represents a component including carbon, R2 and R3 represent a component including carbon or hydrogen, and n is in the range of n&#x2267;1. By action of the &#x2550;NCOH group of the compound having the structure of Chemical formula 2, protons can be dissociated from the compound having the structural part of Chemical formula 1 and migrated. Therefore, water retention becomes unnecessary, and high proton conductivity can be obtained in a broad temperature range.

A nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery is provided. The nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery includes a cathode; an anode containing at least an anode active material and a conductive agent; and a nonaqueous electrolyte, wherein the anode has an anode mixture, the anode mixture containing 1.5 wt % or more to 10 wt % or less aluminum oxide which has an average particle diameter of 0.1 &#x3bc;m or more to 5.0 &#x3bc;m or less.

Nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery

A nonaqueous electrolyte battery that includes a unit cell and a battery case that encloses the unit cell. The battery case includes a laminate film that encloses the unit cells by heat welding at least a portion of the laminate film. Upon heat welding, the unit cell further includes a number of electrode terminal leads in which a portion of the electrical terminal leads extend from the battery case. A sealant layer is further applied to at least a portion of the electrode terminal leads so as to contact the battery case upon heat welding in order to further seal the case and to further prevent short circuiting of the nonaqueous-electrolyte battery.

Non-aqueous electrolyte battery

A nonaqueous-electrolyte battery which is capable of preventing introduction of water and deterioration in the capacity thereof is disclosed. The nonaqueous-electrolyte battery according to the present invention incorporates a case constituted by laminated films; and a unit cell which is accommodated in the case and having a structure that the peripheries of the case is sealed with heat, wherein when an assumption is made that the quantity of water capable of penetrating a heat-weld resin layer which is the innermost layer of the case having a thickness of T (&#x3bc;m) is R (g/m&#xb7;day), the cross sectional area of resin in a heat-sealed portion is S (cm), an average width of the heat-sealed portion is W (cm) and the capacity of the unit cell is C (Wh), the following relationship is satisfied: (T&#xd7;R&#xd7;S)/(W&#xd7;C)&#x2266;0.96 &#x3bc;g/Wh&#xb7;day. When the foregoing structure is employed, water introducing rate can be reduced to 350 &#x3bc;g/year or lower per capacity (Wh).

Nonaqueous-electrolyte secondary battery

Provided are a proton conductor and a single ion conductor both having higher conductivity and a wider operating temperature range, and a method of producing the same. A polymer including a structure portion represented by Chemical Formula 49, and an organic compound represented by Chemical Formula 50 or an organic compound represented by Chemical Formula 51 are included. Each of R1, R2, R3 and R4 is a component including carbon, and each of X1, X2, X3, X4 and X5 is a proton dissociative group. Further, n is n&#x3e;1, and p is p&#x3e;0, and the number of carbons in R4 is within a range from 1 to 4. Proton transfer can be promoted by an ether bond or the proton dissociative group of the organic compound, and the number of protons can be increased by the proton dissociative group of the organic compound, thereby the proton transfer can be smoothed.

A nonaqueous-electrolyte battery that includes a unit cell and a battery case that encloses the units. The battery case includes a laminate film that sealingly encloses the units by heat welding at least a portion of the laminate film. Upon heat welding, the unit cell further includes a number of electrode terminal leads in which a portion of the electrical terminal leads extend from the battery case. A sealant layer is further applied to at least a portion of the electrodeterminal leads so as to contact the battery case upon heat welding in order to further seal the case and to further prevent short circuiting of the nonaqueous-electrolyte battery.

An inorganic compound with a specific inductive capacity not less than 12, is contained in a separator, a gelated electrolyte, a non-aqueous electrolyte, and an electrode. This improves the degree of ion dissociation of a lithium compound as an electrolytic salt contained in the non-aqueous solvent, the gelated electrolyte, and the electrolytic salt, while diminishing resistance against ion conduction to improve ion conductivity and while preventing crystallization in a low-temperature environment.

Separator, gelated electrolyte, non-aqueous electrolyte, electrode and non-aqueous electrolyte cell employing the same

An initial charging operation is carried out by a charging step composed of two-stages or more to improve an initial charging and discharging efficiency, reduce the charge of wasteful materials and improve a high capacity and a high cyclic characteristic without deteriorating various kinds of battery properties. In order to realize the improvements, a nonaqueous solvent which is decomposed under a potential higher than the reduction and decomposition potential of a main solvent is included in electrolyte. This charging method is a method for achieving the addition effect of such a nonaqueous solvent as much as possible. As a specific means, the electrolyte to which vinylene carbonate is added is employed and a constant-current and constant-voltage charge under about 3.2 V is carried out for 1 to 2 hours before a battery is completely charged. Thus, a good coat can be formed on the surface of an anode while suppressing the quantity of electricity required for forming the coat.

Charging method for charging nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery

The present invention provides a gel electrolyte cell including a non-aqueous electrolytic solution containing lithium-containing electrolyte salt solved in a non-aqueous solvent and made into a gel state by a matrix polymer, and the gel electrolyte contains vinylene carbonate or derivative thereof in the amount not less than 0.05 wt % and not greater than 5 wt %. This gel electrolyte exhibits an excellent chemical stability with the negative electrode, strength, and liquid-retention characteristic. This gel electrolyte enables to obtain a gel electrolyte cell satisfying the cell capacity, cycle characteristic, load characteristic, and low-temperature characteristic.

Gel electrolyte and gel electrolyte cell

It is an object to quickly disperse heat generated when short circuit occurs between a positive electrode and a negative electrode. A nonaqueous-electrolyte battery is disclosed which incorporates: an encapsulating medium constituted by a laminated film in which a unit cell is accommodated, wherein the laminated film of the encapsulating medium contains a metal material having a heat conductivity k at room temperatures which is 230 Wm K or higher. Moreover, ratio R of the volume of the metal material portion of the encapsulating medium with respect to a capacity of 1 mAh of the unit cell is 0.0002 cm /mAh&lE;R&lE;0.003 cm /mAh.

A nonaqueous electrolyte battery is disclosed which has an improved volume energy density and satisfactory impact resistance, a heat radiating characteristic and producibility. The battery element is accommodated in a casing constituted by a laminate film so as to be sealed by welding. Electrode-terminal leads electrically conducted to electrodes which constitute the battery element are sandwiched by welded portions so as to be exposed to the outside portion of the casing. A control circuit of the battery is mounted on a welded portion of the casing. Since the control circuit of the battery is mounted on the welded portion of the casing, the space in the battery in which the battery element is not present can effectively be used. Therefore, the volume efficiency can considerably be improved.
