A developing cartridge includes a casing, a developing roller rotatable about an axis extending in a first direction, a developing memory having an electrical contact surface, an agitator, an agitator gear rotatable about an agitator axis together with the agitator, a holder holding the electrical contact surface, and a plate movable between a first position and a second position in a second direction crossing the first direction relative to the casing. The holder is movable relative to the casing in a third direction crossing the first and second directions between a retracted position and an advancing position. The holder is movable from the retracted position to the advancing position in response to a movement of the plate from the first position to the second position. The plate is positioned farther away from the developing roller than the agitator gear and the holder are in the second direction.

A toner cartridge includes a toner housing, a toner conveyor unit, a first cover, a shutter, a toner memory, and a memory holder. The first cover covers a toner housing opening and is movable together with the toner housing. The shutter includes a protrusion. The memory holder holds the toner memory and is movable relative to the toner housing. When the toner cartridge is attached, the protrusion is located in place, and the toner housing is movable between a close position in which the shutter closes a cover opening of the first cover and an open position in which at least part of a shutter opening of the shutter is aligned with at least part of the cover opening to allow toner to be let out through the cover opening. The position of the memory holder is different from the position of the shutter in a first direction.

A developing cartridge includes: a casing; a developing roller rotatable about a developing axis extending in a first direction and positioned at one end portion of the casing in a second direction crossing the first direction; a developing electrode electrically connected to the developing roller and positioned at one end portion of the casing in the first direction; a supply roller rotatable about a supply axis extending in the first direction and configured to supply toner to the developing roller; a supply electrode electrically connected to the supply roller and positioned at one end portion of the casing in the first direction; and an IC chip having an electrical contact surface positioned at one end portion of the casing in the first direction. The electrical contact surface is positioned opposite the developing electrode in the second direction with respect to a part of the supply electrode.

An image-forming apparatus includes: a photosensitive drum, a motor, and a drum gear train configured to transmit a driving force from the motor to the photosensitive drum. The drum gear train includes a first gear, a second gear and a first clutch. The first gear is rotatable about a first axis upon receipt of the driving force. The second gear is rotatable about the first axis and configured to receive the driving force from the first gear and to transmit the driving force to the photosensitive drum. The first clutch is switchable between a first transmission state where the driving force is transmitted from the first gear to the second gear and a first transmission cutoff state where the transmission of the driving force from the first gear to the second gear is cut off.

A developing cartridge includes: a housing; a developing roller rotatable about an axis extending in an axial direction; a first helical gear and a second helical gear positioned at an outer surface of the housing; a cover covering part of the second helical gear; and an engaging member movable with the second helical gear. The second helical gear meshes with the first helical gear and is rotatable in first and second rotational directions. The second helical gear is movable in the axial direction between a first position and a second position farther away from the outer surface than the first position. The second helical gear rotates in the first rotational direction to move to the first position. The second helical gear rotates in the second rotational direction to move to the second position whereby the engaging member engages part of the cover to terminate rotation of the second helical gear.

An image forming apparatus includes a casing having a frame, a drive source configured to generate a driving force, a gear mechanism configured to receive the driving force of the drive source, and a drive source support formed in the frame. A judging unit determines that the cartridge has been removed from the apparatus body if the sensing body is at the first position, determines that the cartridge has been mounted in the apparatus body if the sensing body is at the second position, and determines that the cartridge is a new product if the sensing body is at the third position.

A gear system is provided. The gear system includes a driven gear, which is rotated by driving force from a driving gear, a base member to support the driven gear, and a bearing structure, including a shaft and a shaft hole to rotatably support the shaft, by which the driven gear is rotatably attached to the base member. One of the shaft and the shaft hole is provided to the driven gear, and the other of the shaft and the shaft hole is provided to the base member. The bearing structure has a lubricant reservoir in a slidable section, in which the shaft and the shaft hole are slidably in contact with each other when the driven gear is rotated by the driving force from the driving gear, the lubricant reservoir containing lubricant to lubricate the slidable section.
