An image processing apparatus includes a pick-up for picking-up a subject, temporal storage for temporarily storing sets of image information picked up by the pick-up during predetermined time periods, and a display for displaying the stored sets of image information and image information from the pick-up. A subject views the display during image pick-up. Also included is a control that causes temporal storage to store the sets of image information corresponding to the same subject picked up by the pick-up during the predetermined time periods, and causes display of the sets of image information corresponding to the same subject and stored in temporal storage discriminatively from the image information from the pick-up. At least one of the sets of image information is selected corresponding to the same subject in temporal storage.

There is a receiving apparatus in which the received data is recorded by a recording head which accesses each portion of a recording medium. This receiving apparatus comprises: a discriminating circuit to discriminate whether the portion accessed by the recording head is the recorded portion or the unrecorded portion upon reception; and a control circuit for allowing the recording head to access the unrecorded portion on the basis of the result of the discrimination of the discriminating circuit. When one video input is selected, a real-time video image of a subject is displayed on a monitor. A communication apparatus comprehensively displays external equipments connected its own station and a destination station. A control CPU 26 repeatedly examines the presence or absence of the connected external equipments and the signal input status from the external equipments by a video input/output circuit 12, an audio input/output circuit 16 and a digital data input/output circuit 20 and stores that information in an internal status flag memory. Similar information from the destination station is also stored in the status flag memory. The available external equipments are displayed by icons on liquid crystal displays of a drawing tablets 64 and 66 in accordance with the information stored in the status flag memory.

A data input apparatus includes an image pickup with a zooming function, for converting an original image into an electrical signal, an area judger for judging at least a character area from the image taken by the image pickup and a character recognizer for converting the character image, in the character area judged by the area judger, into a character code. A detector detects errors in the character recognition and a controller controls the zooming function of the image pickup according to an output of the detector thereby effecting the character recognition with an enlarged image when errors increase.
