An electrochromic material containing a &#x3c0;-electron based conjugated polymer that changes from a desired color developed state to a decolored state, and a method for producing the electrochromic material, are provided. The electrochromic material contains a&#x3c0;-electron based conjugated polymer as shown in chemical formula (1). In formula (1), each X is any one selected from &#x2014;S&#x2014;, &#x2014;O&#x2014;, &#x2014;Se&#x2014; and &#x2014;Te&#x2014;; each Y is any one selected from a hydrogen atom and an organic group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms; W is an arylene group or divalent heteroaromatic ring group; and n is a number of 2 to 1,000. Repetition of this structure forms a structure of random copolymers, graft copolymers, block copolymers and/or dendrimers.

Electrochromic material and a method for producing the same

Provided are a &#x3c0;-electron conjugated polymer having a constitutional unit represented by general formula (2) that is suitable as an electrochromic material that changes from a desired colored state to a decolored state, a new compound that is a raw material of the polymer, and a method for producing the polymer: wherein each X independently represents one selected from the group consisting of an oxygen atom, a sulfur atom, &#x2014;NH&#x2014;, and &#x2014;NR&#x2014; (wherein Ris an optionally substituted alkyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms or an optionally substituted aryl group having 6 to 20 carbon atoms); each Y independently represents an oxygen atom or a sulfur atom; each Z independently represents one selected from the group consisting of a hydrogen atom and optionally substituted organic groups having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, and W is one selected from the group consisting of an ethynylene group, an optionally substituted ethenylene group, optionally substituted arylene groups, and optionally substituted divalent heteroaromatic ring groups; and n is an integer of 2 or greater.

A dielectric material for a polymeric actuator having a moveable part of the polymeric actuator driven by an electric field, the dielectric material containing a block copolymer (A) having a microphase-separated structure including a polymer block (B1) and a polymer block (B2), both of which are immiscible with each other. A main compositional unit in both of the polymer block (B1) and the polymer block (B2) is a (meth)acrylic ester unit, the polymer block (B1) having an alpha-dispersion temperature of 70&#xb0; C. or more, and the polymer block (B2) having an alpha-dispersion temperature of 25&#xb0; C. or less. The polymeric actuator provides the dielectric material between electrodes.

Dielectric material for polymeric actuator, and polymeric actuator using the same

A methacrylic resin composition in which a star block copolymer (B) in the form of particles is dispersed in a matrix (A) composed of a methacrylic resin comprising not less than 50% by mass of a methyl methacrylate unit. The methacrylic resin composition is obtained by bulk-polymerizing or solution-polymerizing 100 parts by mass of a monomer mixture (A') containing 50 to 100% by mass of methyl methacrylate and 0 to 50% by mass of other vinyl monomer copolymerizable with the methyl methacrylate, in the presence of 1 to 80 parts by mass of the star block copolymer (B) comprising a polymer block (a) composed of a (meth)acrylic acid alkyl ester unit and a polymer block (b) composed of a conjugated diene compound unit, until the polymerization conversion of the monomer reaches 70% by mass or more.
