A mechanically lined pipe including a host pipe having an inner surface which is lined with a metallic liner, the metallic liner having an inner surface which is lined with a polymer liner which presses the metallic liner against the inner surface of the host pipe, as well as to methods of reeling and unreeling the mechanically lined pipe. A method of making a mechanically lined pipe having an internal polymer liner, the mechanically lined pipe including a host pipe having an inner surface which is lined with a metallic liner, the method including the steps of: (a) providing a mechanically lined pipe having an internal diameter, (b) providing a polymer liner having an outer diameter which is greater than the internal diameter of the mechanically liner pipe, (c) reducing the outer diameter of the polymer liner such that it is less than the internal diameter of the mechanically liner pipe, (d) inserting the polymer liner into the mechanically lined pipe, and (e) allowing the polymer liner to expand such that it presses the metallic liner against the inner surface of the host pipe.

A method of installing an In-Line Structure (ILS) to a fluid-filled pipeline extending from a reel, over an aligner, and through a lay-tower during offshore reeling, the pipeline having an oblique part from the reel to the aligner, and a vertical part from the aligner through the lay-tower, including at least the steps of: (a) draining fluid in the fluid-filled pipeline from the vertical part of the pipeline to create a drained portion of the vertical part of the pipeline up to and around the aligner; (b) cutting the pipeline at or near the draining of step (a) to create upper and lower open ends of the pipeline; (c) installing the In-Line Structure to at least the upper open end of the pipeline; (d) locating a vent hose through a vent port in the In-Line Structure; (e) adding fluid into the drained portion of the pipeline and venting air from the drained portion of the pipeline through the vent hose to wholly or substantially fill the drained portion of the pipeline with the fluid.

Method of installing an in-line structure in a pipeline

A method of installing an In-Line Structure (ILS) to a flooding fluid-filled pipeline extending from a reel, over an aligner, and through a lay-tower during offshore reeling, the pipeline having an oblique part from the reel to the aligner, and a vertical part from the aligner through the lay-tower, including the steps of: (a) draining the flooding fluid from the vertical part of the pipeline to create a drained portion of the vertical part of the pipeline up to and around the aligner; (b) cutting the pipeline at or near the draining of step (a) to create upper and lower open ends of the pipeline; (c) installing a pig into the upper open end; (d) moving the pig through the pipeline to reach a flooding fluid-filled part of the pipeline; (e) adding flooding fluid into the flooding fluid-filled part of the pipeline to reverse the movement of the pig in step (d) and to wholly or substantially refill the drained portion of the pipeline; and (f) installing the In-Line Structure (ILS) to at least the upper open end of the pipeline.

A PIP Trace Heating Connection Assembly A pipe-in-pipe (PIP) trace heating connection assembly in the annulus of a PIP pipeline comprising at least first and second conjoined PIP stalks having inner and outer pipes and the annulus thereinbetween, the first PIP stalk having a first trace heating cable () located along its inner pipe, and the second PIP stalk having a second trace heating cable () located along its inner pipe, the first and second heating cables have cable ends and heating cable terminals on the cable ends, and a flexible intermediate connecting cable () having first and second intermediate terminals secured to, the heating cable terminals of the first and second trace heating cables respectively to form a secured electrical pathway between the first and second trace heating cables. In this way, securing the heating cable terminals with the intermediate connecting cable significantly reduces the time required to form a secured electrical pathway between the trace heating cables of each PIP stalk.

A method of manufacturing a mechanically lined pipe (MLP) having an outer pipe and an inner liner comprising at least the steps of: (a) forming the outer pipe as a single length; (b) forming an inner liner former being wholly or substantially the same length as the outer pipe of step (a); (c) locating the inner liner former of step (b) within the outer pipe; and (d) expanding the inner liner former within the outer pipe to form the MLP.

Method of manufacturing a mechanically lined pipe

Methods of reel-laying a mechanically lined pipe (MLP) are described. These include the steps of: spooling the MLP () onto a reel () in the complete or substantial absence of internal pressure above ambient pressure in the MLP; spooling off the MLP from the reel; aligning and straightening the spooled off MLP, in the complete or substantial absence of internal pressure above ambient pressure, to provide an MLP for laying; and/or the steps of: spooling the MLP () onto a reel () resulting in the formation of wrinkles in the spooled MLP; spooling off the MLP from the reel; aligning and straightening the unspooled MLP to provide an MLP for laying having wrinkles &#x3c;4 mm high, removing wrinkles, if any, while performing the hydrotest which is used to check fluid tightness of the line. By minimizing the size of the wrinkles and/or particularly selecting the liner of the MLP, the methods of the present invention allow safer, faster spooling and spooling off to be effected to provide safer, faster and more economical laying of an MLP.
