A personnel access system may include a mobile device(s) comprising a first near field communication (NFC) device, a wireless device, and a first controller configured to generate an access request. An access control device may be associated with a personnel access position and include a second NFC device configured to receive the access request, and a second controller configured to generate a verification request for the mobile device(s) based upon the received access request. A verification device may be configured to receive the verification request from the access control device, and send a verification message to the mobile device(s). The first controller may be configured to receive the verification message via the wireless device, and generate verification data based thereon. The second controller may be configured to selectively grant personnel access based upon the verification data.

Personnel access system with verification features utilizing near field communication (NFC) and related methods

A communications system may include a first mobile device holder and a first trigger device associated therewith, a second mobile device holder different than the first mobile device holder and a second trigger device associated with the second mobile device holder, and a first NFC device associated with the first mobile device holder. The system may further include a mobile device configured to be removably coupled with the first holder or the second holder, a second NFC device carried by the housing, and a detector carried by the housing and configured to detect the first trigger device or the second trigger device. The mobile device may also include a controller carried by the housing and configured to determine positioning adjacent the first or second holder based upon the second NFC device and the detector, and operate in a respective first or second operating mode accordingly.

Communications system providing enhanced mobile device holder detection based upon NFC communication and related methods

A mobile communication device maintains a stored list of a plurality of carrier identifications, where each carrier identification is stored in association with one of a plurality of country codes. The mobile device is also associated with a home wireless carrier that is identifiable by a home carrier identification stored in its memory. The mobile device reads the home carrier identification from the memory, and selects one of the plurality of country codes that is stored in association with the home carrier identification. During operation, the mobile device reads a specified domain name in response to a user-initiated request made via a Web browser or search application. Then, the mobile device produces a Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) request with a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) corresponding to a specified domain name and a country code parameter which includes the selected country code. The HTTP request with the URL is submitted via the wireless communication network. Advantageously, consistency in accessing web sites, information, and/or search results may be achieved regardless of location of the mobile station.

Methods and apparatus for producing and submitting an HTTP request with a selected country code parameter from a mobile device

A communications system may include a plurality of electronic devices having respective different device types and each configured to wirelessly communicate via a plurality of different wireless communications formats. The system may also include a mobile wireless communications device including a plurality of application modules associated with respective electronic device types and configured to communicate via a first one of the wireless communications formats. The mobile wireless communications device may further include a control module configured to establish an initial wireless communications link with a given electronic device using a second one of the wireless communications formats, determine a respective device type for the given electronic device based upon the established initial wireless communications link, and cause a respective application module to establish a subsequent wireless communications link with the given electronic device using the second wireless communications format based upon the determined respective device type.

Communications system providing mobile wireless communications device application module associations for respective wireless communications formats and related methods

Displaying tabular information in a user interface (UI) on a display screen is enhanced by freezing selected non-adjacent columns (rows). Freezing ensures the display of the selected non-adjacent columns (rows) when scrolling to bring other columns (rows) into the table for display. Border rows (columns) may also be frozen when scrolling. A table in a document navigable by moving a focus to scroll the document may be displayed by a UI control configured to automatically display the frozen border rows (columns). When scrolling a focus in the document at an edge of the display screen to bring the UI control into the display, the UI control aligns a portion of the table with the edge and paints the frozen border row (column). The UI control maintain the display of the border row (column) when scrolling through the table.

System and method for freezing columns and rows in a UI table

A mobile communication device is associated with a home wireless carrier that is identifiable by a home carrier identification stored in its memory.
