A medical transceiver device for radio-based communication with an implantable medical device has circuitry for transmitting radio-frequency signals to, and/or receiving radio-frequency signals from, the implantable medical device, first and second electrically conductive structures, and an antenna feed network operatively interconnected between the circuitry and the first and second conductive structures. Each of the first and second conductive structures is operable as a transmitting and/or receiving antenna for the radio-frequency signals. The first and second conductive structures emit and/or receive radio waves of different polarizations, and the first and second conductive structures are disposed adjacent each other at a single location in space, thereby providing spatial diversity that is independent of the polarization diversity.

Medical transceiver device and method

An implantable medical device has an electronic circuit and a telemetry circuit both connected to a common ground, and at least one RF telemetry antenna that is formed by a number of parts of the implantable device that are capable of functioning as an antenna. When implanted, these parts are in contact with tissue. For voltage protection, the RF antenna circuit is connected to the parts of the RF telemetry antenna via at least one capacitor. The capacitor is dimensioned to withstand a voltage amplitude of a pulse that would be capable of modifying the state of, or destroying, any component in the RF telemetry circuit or the electronic circuit.

Implantable medical device with a voltage protection circuit

An implantable medical device is stored in a container prior to implantation in body tissue. The IMD includes transmitter/receiver circuitry and at least one antenna. The storage container (packaging) includes an impedance altering substance positioned in proximity to the IMD when stored in the container, the substance having electrical material properties that alter the input impedance of the antenna to improve the reception and transmission properties of the antenna when the IMD is stored in the container. A container for storing an IMD having an antenna has a packaging tray for housing the IMD, the packaging tray having a support for supporting the IMD and the container including a substance positioned in proximity to the support that has electrical material properties that after the input impedance of the antenna of the IMD supported by the support, so as to improve the reception and transmission properties of the antenna. A method for packaging an IMD prior to implantation in body tissue includes the step of providing such an impedance altering substance in the pre-implantation IMD packaging, in proximity to the packaged IMD.

Container for storing an implantable medical device and a method for packaging such a device

An analyte measuring system has an implantable medical device having a signal source arranged for generating a current signal and electrodes for applying the current signal to a surrounding tissue in a subject body. The device measures a resulting voltage signal with the electrodes and calculates an impedance signal therefrom. The system comprises a signal processor arranged for generating an estimate of a concentration of an analyte in the tissue based on a spectrum analysis of the determined impedance signal.

Implantable medical device

In a medical implantable device having a hermetically sealed, radio shielded encapsulations containing an RF circuit therein and having an antenna located outside of the encapsulation, and in a method for connecting the RF circuit to the antenna, at least one hermetical feedthrough connection is provided in the form of at least one conductor passing through a wall portion of the encapsulation in a liquid-tight and gas-tight manner, with the feedthrough being electrically insulated from the encapsulation. At least one connector pin is provided on an RF circuit board, which is resiliently mounted on the RF circuit board. The RF circuit is mounted in the encapsulation so as to cause the connector pin to resiliently engage the conductor and to electrically connect the conductor with the RF circuit board.
