Articulating surgical instruments are disclosed. In one embodiment, a surgical instrument may include an elongated shaft assembly including an articulable portion moveable between a non-articulated configuration and an articulated configuration. First and second articulating shafts of the elongated shaft assembly may be coaxially arranged and axially fixed at an attachment point located distally from the articulable portion. Proximal portions of the first and second articulating shafts may be displaceable in opposing directions to articulate the articulable portion from the non-articulated configuration to the articulated configuration. In another embodiment, an articulation control may be movable from a first position to a second position to move an articulation lock from a locked configuration to an unlocked configuration to selectively permit articulation of a surgical instrument. The articulation lock also may be movable from the second position to a third position to articulate the surgical instrument.

Articulating surgical instruments

In an embodiment, an injection simulation device is provided. The injection simulation device may include a housing defining an opening, the housing having a proximal end and a distal end, a plunger movable relative to the housing, the plunger comprising a first interfacing portion, and distal movement of the plunger initiates an injection simulation, a rotatable component comprising a proximal end and a distal end, and an aperture extending between the proximal and distal ends of the rotatable component for receiving a portion of the plunger, rotatable component comprising a second interfacing portion for interfacing with the first interfacing portion to rotate the rotatable component when the plunger is moved toward the proximal or distal end of the housing. The injection simulation device may further include a stationary component defining a cavity for receiving the rotatable component, the cavity comprising a fluid, wherein movement of the plunger causes rotational and axial movement of the rotatable component, such that an interface between the rotatable component and the stationary component causes an increase in resistance during distal movement of the plunger, and a decrease in resistance occurs upon proximal movement of the plunger.

Plunger speed control training system and method

A surgical fluid thermal treatment system can be used during a procedure to heat or cool surgical fluid, e.g., prior to introducing the fluid into the body of a patient. In some examples, the system includes an open basin into which fresh surgical fluid is dispensed and a heater that heats the fluid in the basin. The system may also include a volume measurement device that measures the volume of fluid in the basin. The system may have a user interface that a user interacts with to check fresh fluid into the basin. The user may also interact with the user interface to check medical tools into the basin and check medical tools out of the basin. A controller associated with the system can track the volume of fluid removed from the basin during the course of a procedure.

Thermal treatment of surgical fluids

The invention is a system and a device for use in open or minimally invasive surgical procedures, such as a bone implant fixation procedure. The device is configured to perform various functions during a bone implant fixation procedure, including performing at least one of: penetration of a bone to form a hole or opening for receipt of a screw; neuromonitoring, in cooperation with a neuromonitoring device, of the hole during, or post-, formation of the hole so as to sense any nearby nerves adjacent to the hole that may be in the path of a screw, or otherwise affected, when a screw is placed within the hole; neurostimulation, in cooperation with a neuromonitoring device, of nerves adjacent to the hole during, or post-, formation of the hole; and measuring of a depth of the hole and providing a digital measurement of the depth to assist the surgeon in selecting the appropriate length of screw.

Handheld devices for use in medical procedures

A surgical system includes a tubular shaft having a wall defining an outer surface and an inner surface disposed about an inner space, the tubular shaft having a proximal end and a distal end. The surgical system also includes at least one light emitter and at least one light sensor disposed at the distal end of the tubular shaft, and one or more leads or conductors electrically coupled to the at least one light emitter or the at least one light sensor. The one or more leads may be disposed in clearances defined by first and second jaws. Alternatively or in addition, the one or more conductors may be formed on a flexible substrate, and the flexible substrate may have a deformed state in which the substrate is disposed in the inner space.

Compact system used to determine tissue or artifact characteristics

An apparatus includes a disposable assembly and a reusable assembly. The disposable assembly includes a fluid input port, a fluid output port, and a tube configured to provide fluid communication between the fluid input port and the fluid output port. The reusable assembly includes a housing, a fluid management assembly that is configured to transition between an open position and a closed position, and a sensing assembly. The fluid management assembly is configured to prevent fluid from traveling past the tube to the fluid output port in the closed position. The sensing assembly is configured to sense fluid accumulating within the tube while the fluid management assembly is in the closed position. The sensing assembly is also configured to drive the fluid management assembly from the closed position to the open position when the sensing assembly detects fluid within the tube at a predetermined range.

Fluid output measurement device and method

The invention is a system and a handheld device for use in open or minimally invasive surgical procedures, such as a bone implant fixation procedure. The handheld device is configured to perform various functions during a bone implant fixation procedure, including performing at least one of: penetration of a bone to form a hole or opening for receipt of a screw; neuromonitoring, in cooperation with a neuromonitoring device, of the hole during, or post-, formation of the hole so as to sense any nearby nerves adjacent to the hole that may be in the path of a screw, or otherwise affected, when a screw is placed within the hole; neurostimulation, in cooperation with a neuromonitoring device, of nerves adjacent to the hole during, or post-, formation of the hole; and measuring of a depth of the hole and providing a digital measurement of the depth to assist the surgeon in selecting the appropriate length of screw.

Adapters for a connector assembly for percutaneous tubing are provided. A male adapter (FIG.) includes a connector fitting () proximate a first end, the connector fitting configured to join to a connector for a tubing system or device, and a male connector () proximate a second end. The male connector includes a plug end with a fluid lumen defined therethrough, the plug end having a circumferential groove defined therein to receive a locking extension of a female connector sized to be received within the circumferential groove of the plug end to allow the female connector to rotate relative to and maintain axial engagement with the male connector when the locking extension is received within the groove. An adapter having a female connector (FIG.) is also provided.

Systems and methods for tubing delivery

Connector assembly (FIG.) includes a shell (), a connector body (), and a plug (). The shell () has a sidewall () defining an interior, a first shell end having a first opening () defined therein, and a second shell end having a second opening () defined therein, each of the first () and second openings () in communication with the interior to receive percutaneous tubing therethrough, the shell () further having an engagement portion. The connector body () has a first body end () and a second body end () with a tube lumen defined therethrough, the first body end () having a connector tip (), the connector body () having an engaging portion to engage the engagement portion of the shell (). The plug () has a first plug end and a second plug end with a fluid lumen defined therethrough, the first plug end having a plug tip () extending therefrom.
