A tissue handling system includes a biopsy device and a tissue storage container separate from the biopsy device. The biopsy device has a cutting cannula, a housing, and a tissue collecting device. The tissue collecting device is detachably received in the housing. The tissue collecting device is configured to receive at least one tissue sample. The tissue storage container is configured to detachably receive the tissue collecting device after the tissue collecting device is disengaged from the housing of the biopsy device to deliver the at least one tissue sample from the tissue collecting device to the tissue storage container.

Tissue handling system with reduced operator exposure

A tissue collection device () for collection of one or more exposed tissue samples () from a biopsy needle or biopsy device, which tissue collection device comprises one or more pieces of a carrier medium () and is arranged to temporarily bring a piece of carrier medium into physical contact with the tissue sample, while the tissue sample is still positioned in the biopsy needle or biopsy device, so that the tissue sample () adheres to the carrier medium () and is removed from the biopsy needle () or biopsy device () with the carrier medium (), when the carrier medium () is removed from the biopsy needle or biopsy device again. Furthermore, a biopsy device comprising such a tissue collection device is disclosed.

A handheld device for extracting tissue samples includes a needle arrangement and control arrangement. The needle arrangement has a cutting needle, a sample extraction needle, and a first end for inserting into tissue. The cutting needle has a cutting edge for cutting the tissue sample. The sample extraction needle has a side opening for receiving the tissue. The control arrangement has a vacuum chamber in fluid communication with the sample extraction needle. The vacuum chamber has a first member and a second member that move relative to each other. The first member is mechanically connected to the cutting needle. The handheld device is configured so that movement between the first and second members to increase volume of the vacuum chamber thereby reduces pressure in the sample extraction needle, induces movement between the cutting needle and the sample extraction needle to expose the side opening.

Handheld tissue sample extraction device

An endoscopic biopsy device for collecting samples. The device includes a tubular body having distal and proximal ends and jaws hinged to the distal end. The jaws operate between OPEN and CLOSED positions to secure a tissue sample. In the CLOSED position, the jaws define a sampling chamber. A collecting chamber for receiving samples is located within the body near the sampling chamber. A collecting member for transfixing secured samples is displaceable between a retracted position in the collecting chamber and a deployed position where the collecting member penetrates into the sampling chamber. The jaws include retaining elements projecting inwardly on a portion of the jaws. The retaining elements engage when the jaws are CLOSED, separating the sampling and collecting chambers from each other. The retaining elements disengage when the jaws are OPEN, providing a passage for the transfer of transfixed samples into and out of the collecting chamber.

Endoscopic device for multiple sample biopsy

A tissue handling system includes a biopsy device configured to deliver at least one tissue sample to a location outside the body of a patient. A tissue storage container is separate from the biopsy device. A tissue collecting device is configured to releasably engage the biopsy device to receive the at least one tissue sample from the biopsy device. The tissue collecting device is configured to be disengaged from the biopsy device and engaged with the tissue storage container to deliver the at least one tissue sample to the tissue storage container.

A tissue handling system includes a biopsy device having an invasive unit with tissue-receiving and tissue-severing components being capable of harvesting and bringing at least one tissue sample to a point outside the body of a patient. The tissue handling system further includes a tissue collecting device adapted to be brought in detachable operative engagement with the tissue-receiving components of the biopsy device to remove the at least one tissue sample. Additionally, the tissue handling device comprises a tissue storage container configured to receive the at least one tissue sample, the entire tissue collecting device, or the part of the collecting device that contains the at least one tissue sample. The tissue storage container further is configured to receive a volume of preserving agent. The tissue handling system also comprises a vessel including the preserving agent adapted to be gas-tightly mated or coupled to the tissue storage container.
