A disc cutter for a cutting unit used in an undercutting operation and a method of producing the same. The disc cutter including an annular disc body made of a metal alloy or metal matrix composite having a first side, a second side arranged substantially opposite to the first side and a radially peripheral part. At least one metal alloy, metal matrix composite or cemented carbide cutting part is mounted in and substantially encircling the radially peripheral part of the disc body which protrudes outwardly therefrom to engage with the rock during the mining operation. The at least one cutting part is made from a material having a higher wear resistance than the material used for the disc body, wherein the disc body and the cutting part are joined by diffusion bonds.

A method for manufacturing a wear resistant component, includes the steps of: providing a mould defining at least a portion of the component; providing a powder mixture comprising a first powder of tungsten carbide and a second powder of a cobalt-based alloy, wherein the powder mixture comprises 30-70 vol % of the first powder of tungsten carbide and 70-30 vol % of the second powder of the cobalt-based alloy and the second powder of cobalt-based alloy comprises 20-35 wt % Cr, 0-20 wt % W, 0-15 wt % Mo, 0-10 wt % Fe, 0.05-4 wt % C and balance Co, wherein the amounts of W and Mo fulfills the requirement 4&#x3c;W+Mo&#x3c;20; filling the mould with the powder mixture; and subjecting the mould to Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) at a predetermined temperature, a predetermined isostatic pressure and for a predetermined time so that the particles of the powder mixture bond metallurgically to each other.

A method for manufacturing a component having at least one internal cavity includes the step of providing a core element of metallic material that includes at least one cavity having a first opening covered by a cover element with a first and second side. A form partially surrounds the core element and cover element. The form is filled with metallic filling material and heated in a heating chamber that is pressurized with gas for a predetermined time period at a predetermined temperature and a predetermined isostatic pressure, so that a metallurgical bond is achieved between the core element, cover element and metallic filling material. The core element is arranged such that, after filling the form with metallic filling material, the second side of the cover element is covered with metallic filling material so that the cavity during heating is pressurized to the predetermined isostatic pressure.
