Apparatuses and methods for read source determination are provided. One example apparatus can include a controller configured to determine a source for read requests and to direct read requests for a first portion of data to a first block of single level memory cells in response to an amount of a second portion of data written to a second block of single level memory cells being less than a threshold amount, and direct read requests for the first portion of data to a first block of quad level memory cells in response to the amount of the second portion of data written to the second block of single level memory cells being at least the threshold amount.

Read source determination

Methods, systems, and devices for internal commands for access operations are described. A memory sub-system can receive a request to perform an access operation. A first core of the memory sub-system can generate an internal command for performing the access operation. The internal command can include information for storing in a reference queue of the memory sub-system and an identification of a command entry of the reference queue. The first core can issue the internal command to perform the access operation and a second core of the memory sub-system can store the information in the command entry of the reference queue.

Internal commands for access operations

An operation performed on a non-volatile memory device is detected. A type of the operation is determined. The type of the operation comprises a type identifier and a type modifier. A journal entry is generated reflecting the operation. The journal entry comprises a body reflecting the operation and a header comprising the type identifier and the type modifier. A combination of the type identifier and the type modifier define a size of the journal entry. The journal entry is written to a volatile memory device.

Journal scheme for a memory sub-system

Methods, systems, and devices for metadata indication are described herein. A method includes receiving, from a host system, a read command to retrieve information from a first block of a memory device, identifying a transfer unit associated with the first block indicated in the read command, identifying an indicator in metadata of the identified transfer unit indicating that at least one sector of the transfer unit has been altered based at least in part on identifying the transfer unit, validating data of the transfer unit stored in the memory device based at least in part on identifying the indicator in the metadata, and retrieving the information stored in the first block based at least in part on validating the data of the transfer unit.

Exemplary methods, apparatuses, and systems include receiving an instruction to atomically write data to a memory component. A plurality of write commands for the first data are generated, including an end of atom indicator. The first plurality of write commands are sent to the memory component while accumulating a plurality of translation table updates corresponding to the write commands One or more translation tables are updated with the plurality of translation table updates in response to determining that the final write command has been successfully sent to the memory component.

Write atomicity management for memory subsystems

Embodiments of optical disc drives are described that perform automatic forward sense calibration of write laser power using a sample and hold sampling strategy that is automatically determined based on an automatically selected write strategy. Embodiments of the described optical disc drive may be dynamically configured to support any optical disc media, any write mode, and any write strategy. The write strategies supported may include dynamically changing write speeds and/or write power levels across the respective optical media tracks. As the optical drive is automatically configured for a selected write media/write mode/write strategy, the sample and hold sampling delays used to control the sampling of a forward sense feedback signal are also automatically configured, thereby allowing each forward sense sampling point to be aligned with an area of the forward sense feedback signal that corresponds to a power level of interest and that avoids distortion in the feedback signal.

Automatic forward sense calibration for writing systems

An approach is described that allows an optical disc drive to accurately verify the power level of irradiation beam power levels associated a write strategy used in high speed, high density optical disc media formats using a front monitor diode with a relatively slow rise time and/or relative slow fall time compared to the clock cycle speed of the write strategy signal. A portion of encoded data to be written to an optical disc media may be overwritten to include a predetermined data pattern. During write strategy processing of the data, the predetermined data pattern is replaced with a constant write strategy power level. The constant write strategy output placed within the write strategy signal may control the optical disc drive laser to emit a constant irradiation beam for a duration sufficiently long to allow the front monitor diode to obtain an accurate measure of the irradiation beam power level.

High speed forward sense sampling in optical drives using placed data patterns

Circuits, architectures, systems, methods, software, and algorithms for detecting a modulation transition (e.g., a change from a written portion containing RF-modulated data to an unwritten portion containing only a wobble signal modulation) on an optical storage medium. The method generally includes steps of focusing a first spot of light onto an optical storage medium, wherein the first spot is substantially centered on a first track of the optical storage medium, focusing a satellite spot of light onto an optical storage medium, wherein the satellite spot at least partially overlaps a track adjacent to the first track, generating a satellite signal from light reflected from the optical storage medium from the satellite spot, and detecting the modulation transition by detecting a change in a level of the satellite signal. The present invention advantageously provides for detecting a modulation transition between a main (current) track and an adjacent (next) track, so that demodulation of a signal from an optical storage medium can be smoothly switched from one mode to another.

Methods and apparatuses for detecting a modulation transition in an optical storage medium

A system and method of laser bias control in optical recording media applications are disclosed. In some implementations, bias control for output power may be based upon a detected ratio of erase power to write (or peak) power, i.e., the P/P(or Epsilon, &#x3b5;) ratio.
