A method and control unit in a vehicle for estimating a stretch of a road based on a set of tracks of another vehicle, when driving the vehicle along the road in a driving direction to a destination. The method comprises: detecting a set of tracks of the other vehicle, on the road; estimating the geographical position of the detected set of tracks; comparing the estimated geographical position of the detected set of tracks with map data; rejecting the detected set of tracks when it exits the road or when situated in a driving lane in a direction opposite to the driving direction; and otherwise estimating the stretch of the road based on the set of tracks.

The present invention relates to a method for determination of one or more shift points for a gearbox in a motor vehicle which comprises an engine connected to, in order to drive, said gearbox, where a shift point represents an engine speed at which said gearbox is adapted to effecting a downshift or upshift, said one or more shift points are determined on the basis of an engine target speed &#x3c9;and a first engine speed difference &#x394;&#x3c9;, said target speed &#x3c9;is a desired speed for said engine, said first engine speed difference &#x394;&#x3c9;is a difference between a first engine speed at a first time tand said target speed &#x3c9;at a second time t, and said first and second times tand tare separated by a time period T. The invention relates also to a system, a motor vehicle, a computer program and a computer program product thereof.

Method for determination of gearshift points

A method for determining numbers of gear steps N for a gearbox in a motor vehicle. The vehicle has an engine connected to drive the gearbox. The numbers of gear steps N is the number of downshifts or the number of upshifts which the gearbox effects at an upshift point or a downshift point. A downshift point represents a first engine speed at which the gearbox effects a downshift. An upshift point represents a second engine speed at which the gearbox effects an upshift. The numbers of gear steps N are determined on the basis of a predicted acceleration a for the motor vehicle during a time period T. The invention relates also to a system, a motor vehicle, a computer program and a computer program product thereof for performing the method.

The vehicle includes an engine connected to the gearbox, where a downshift point represents a first engine speed at which the gearbox effects a downshift, and an upshift point represents a second engine speed at which the gearbox effects an upshift. One or more downshift and upshift points are determined relative to an engine target speed which is a desired speed for the engine. A system, a motor vehicle, a computer program and a computer program product thereof perform the method.
