The invention relates to an illuminant () and a socket () for a lamp (). The features of the socket () can be implemented also independently of the features of the illuminant (). The illuminant () has a preferably planar illumination surface (). One or more semiconductor lighting elements are arranged within an illuminant housing (). The illuminant connection device () required for mechanical and electrical connection to the socket () is provided on the rear face () of the illuminant (), said rear face () lying opposite the illumination surface (). The dimensions of the illuminant are preferably greater than the dimensions of the socket () such that the illuminant () fully covers the socket when looking onto the illumination surface (), resulting in a particularly appealing look. Said socket and illuminant () modularly achieve large total illumination surfaces in a lamp () and an appealing overall appearance in a very simple manner.

OLED illuminant for a lamp

The invention relates to an illuminant () and a socket () for a lamp (). The features of the socket can be implemented also independently of the features of the illuminant (). The socket has supply terminal areas on multiple sides of the socket housing such that the socket () can be selectively supplied with electricity and wired from different sides or also simultaneously from multiple sides. Independently of the number and the arrangement of the supply terminal areas (), multiple electrical supply terminals () having the same polarity are provided on the socket (). Said supply terminals () having the same polarity are electrically short-circuited by means of a shorting connector (), in particular two identical shorting connectors () being arranged in the socket housing. Said socket () and illuminant () modularly achieve large total illumination surfaces in a lamp () and an appealing appearance in a very simple manner.

A method for driving a high-pressure gas discharge lamp of a projector system, which is suitable to produce and to supply to a light valve device during a projection interval () a light beam of a basic color which is selected from several basic colors (G, R, B). The lamp is driven by a lamp current. During said projection interval light valves of the light valve device are controlled in a pulse width modulation manner to have each valve provide a respective wanted light integral over said projection interval. During at least one of a number of successive projection intervals associated with one basic color a magnitude of the lamp current is temporarily reduced for at least a time that all light valves can be controlled for said one basic color.

A projection system and a method for operating a discharge lamp are described. The protection system comprises a discharge lampand driving electronics. The color wheelserves as color filter for filtering lightemitted from lampto generate a light sequencewith different colors in sequential color time periods. In between color time periods, spoke time periodsare arranged. The driving electronics provide a lamp current I with superimposed first current pulses, which are generated in at least one of the color time periods. In order to allow greater flexibility and be able to achieve stable arc operation and constant color point over lamp lifetime, the driving electronicsfurther provide second current pulses superimposed on the lamp current.
