A method for automatically controlling ventilation of a patient includes receiving a target expiratory COconcentration, measuring an actual expiratory CO, and comparing the actual expiratory COconcentration to the target expiratory CO. A ventilation rate for the patient is then calculated based on the comparison of the actual expiratory COconcentration and the target expiratory COin order to maintain the actual expiratory COwithin a predetermined range of the target expiratory CO. The patient is then automatically ventilated based on the calculated ventilation rate.

Minute volume and carbon dioxide clearance as surrogates for EtCOin automatic ventilation

A system for ventilating lungs of a subject is disclosed herein. The system includes a control unit configured to control operation of the system. The system also includes a machine ventilator circuit configured to assist the breathing functions of the subject, the machine ventilator circuit includes an inspiration delivery unit, and an expiration circuit. The system also includes a manual ventilation circuit comprising a manual bag guiding a gas from the manual bag wherein a gas flow is guided out from the manual bag to assist an inspiration phase, a gas flow is received to fill the manual bag during an expiration phase, and wherein the gas flow received to fill the manual bag during the expiration phase at least partially comprises the gas flow guided to assist the inspiration phase.

System and method for ventilating lungs

A method and arrangement for detecting a leak in an anesthesia system. The method includes controlling respiratory movements by means of ventilator gas flows and measuring the ventilator gas flow added for an inspiration and removed for an expiration. The method also includes supplying a fresh gas flow for a respiration and measuring the fresh gas flow added for the respiration. The method further includes receiving information indicative of the measured gas flows, determining based on said received information both the gas volume added and the gas volume removed and comparing these determined gas volumes to each other. The method also includes determining based on comparing the anesthesia system leakage.

Method and arrangement for detecting a leak in anesthesia system

A patient breathing system includes a ventilator that provides a driving gas flow to generate patient inspiration. The ventilator further includes a gas inlet for driving gas, the patient breathing system being connectable to a circle which includes an inspiratory hose and an expiratory hose connected to patient, through which circle expired gases can be circulated back to the patient. The circle further includes a fresh gas inlet, an arrangement for enabling the gas flow in a desired direction, a unit for removal of the exhaled carbon dioxide, and a ventilator port for the ventilator connection. The patient breathing system further includes an arrangement by which driving gas of the ventilator has been separated from the patient gases flowing in the circle.
