Systems and methods for using multi frequency satellite measurements to mitigate spatial decorrelation errors caused by ionosphere delays are provided. In one embodiment, a GBAS comprises: a plurality of GNSS reference receivers that receive signals from GNSS satellites; at least one processing module; at least one aircraft communication device; wherein the processing module determines a TEC along a line of sight of a first observable multi-frequency GNSS satellite to determine a current quality metric of the ionosphere; determines at least one overbounded Vertical Ionosphere Gradient standard deviation sigma-vig (&#x3c3;) when the current quality metric of the ionosphere meets a threshold; defines one or more valid iono regions at a given finite period in time where at least one &#x3c3;is applicable; and causes the communication device to communicate to an aircraft the &#x3c3;and a list of GNSS single and multi-frequency satellites having pierce points in the valid iono regions.

Systems and methods using multi frequency satellite measurements to mitigate spatial decorrelation errors caused by ionosphere delays

GBAS includes reference receivers, processing module, and communication device. Processing module checks GNSS satellite measurements to determine proximity of GNSS satellite measurement's IPP to IGPs derived from SBAS geostationary satellites. Processing module determines that GNSS satellite measurement is safe for mitigation using overbounded Vertical Ionosphere Gradient standard deviation sigma-vig (&#x3c3;) when IGPs possess acceptable GIVE values. Processing module determines whether number of GNSS satellite measurements determined safe for mitigation using &#x3c3;are able to produce VPL that meets VAL required for precision approach. Communication device communicates overbounded &#x3c3;along with differential corrections and indication of which GNSS satellite measurements that are safe for mitigation using at least one overbounded &#x3c3;are able to produce VPL that meets VAL required for precision approach to GNSS receiver when number of GNSS satellite measurements determined safe for mitigation using overbounded &#x3c3;are able to produce VPL that meets VAL required for precision approach.

Using space-based augmentation system (SBAS) grid ionosphere vertical error (GIVE) information to mitigate ionosphere errors for ground based augmentation systems (GBAS)

A Ground-Based Augmentation System (GBAS) includes a plurality of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) reference receivers configured to receive and process GNSS satellite measurements. The GBAS further includes at least one processing module communicatively coupled to the plurality of GNSS reference receivers, configured to: determine a respective ionosphere quality metric along lines of sight for of observable GNSS satellites using code minus carrier measurements from the observable GNSS satellites; define one or more valid ionosphere regions where at least one respective ionosphere quality metric meets a threshold; determine which of the observable GNSS satellites have an ionosphere pierce point within the one or more valid ionosphere regions; and output at least one overbounded Vertical Ionosphere Gradient standard deviation (&#x3c3;) corresponding to the one or more valid ionosphere regions and an indication of which observable GNSS satellites have an ionosphere pierce point within the one or more valid ionosphere regions.

Using code minus carrier measurements to mitigate spatial decorrelation errors caused by ionosphere delays

A system comprises a plurality of reference navigation systems, each reference navigation system configured to generate a respective reference navigation solution. The system also comprises a test navigation system, the test navigation system configured to generate a test navigation solution; and a processing unit configured to compare the test navigation solution to each of the respective reference navigation solutions to estimate one or more errors in the differences between the test navigation solution and the respective reference navigation solutions. The processing unit is further configured to update the respective reference navigation solutions to account for the corresponding one or more estimated errors. The processing unit is also configured to compare the test navigation solution to the updated reference navigation solutions to generate a performance score representative of the performance of the test navigation system.
