A process for preparing an aqueous pigment dispersion suitable for use in an ink jet printing ink comprising the following steps in the order I) followed by II):

A process for printing an image on a substrate comprising the steps of: (a) applying an ink comprising polymer-encapsulated pigment particles and an aqueous medium to a substrate by means of an ink jet printer, wherein (i) the said particles are dispersed in the aqueous medium, and (ii) the said particles comprise a carboxy-functional dispersant crosslinked around a pigment core by a first crosslinking agent; and (b) crosslinking the polymer-encapsulated pigment particles with a second crosslinking agent. The process is particularly useful for printing polymeric substrates which come into contact with rubbing and/or moisture.

A process for preparing a modified particulate solid comprising reacting a dispersant with a compound in the presence of a particulate solid and a liquid medium, characterised in that: The process provides a modified particulate solid having improved stability which is particularly useful for liquid vehicles having and range of polarities and for incorporation into ink jet printing inks.

Dispersant-encapsulated particulate solids

An ink-jet printing process containing the steps (a) and (b) in any order or simultaneously: (a) applying an ink by means of an ink printer to a localised region of substrate to form an image on the substrate; and (b) applying a fixing composition containing a liquid medium and a polymeric biguanide containing a repeat unit of Formula (1) or a salt thereof by means of an ink jet printer to localised region of the substrate: wherein: X and Y are the same or different and represent divalent organic linking groups; and characterised in that the localised regions referred to in steps (a) and (b) are substantially coextensive.

Process for ink jet printing

An aqueous coating composition comprising a crosslinkable water-dispersible polyurethane oligomer wherein said composition when drying to form a coating has an open time of at least 20 minutes, a wet-edge time of at least 10 minutes, a tack free time of &#x3c;20 hours and an equilibrium viscosity of &#x3c;5,000 Pa&#xb7;s at a solids content when drying in the range of from 20 to 55 wt % using a shear rate in the range of from 9&#xb1;0.5 to 90&#xb1;5 sand at 23+2&#xb0; C.

Aqueous polyurethane coating compositions

Basic and acid dispersants derived from branched alkyl aliphatic acids and alcohols and one or more hydroxy carboxylic acid or lactone to give a polyoxyalkylenecarbonyl chain (POAC) having a terminal carboxylic acid group (TPOAC acid) or terminal hydroxy group (TPOAC alcohol). Preferred basic dispersants are obtained by reaching one or more TPOAC acids with a polyamine or polyimine such as polyethyleneimine and preferred anionic dispersants are prepared by forming a phosphate ester of a TPOAC alcohol.

Aqueous vinyl polymer coating compositions

A process for forming a chain extended thermoplastic polymer which includes reacting: (i) a prepolymer having one or more guanidinium or biguanidinium units and having at least one reactive end group; and (ii) a chain extender having at least two groups able to react with reactive end group(s) in (i). The polymer used as fixing agent to reduce highlighter smear of prints prepared by ink jet printing.
