A conventional liquid crystal display comprises a number of components, so that a manufacturing cost cannot be reduced. Furthermore, a large-area substrate has problems in shipping. According to this invention, a liquid-crystal panel is prepared by forming individual optically functional films, a TFT device and a light-emitting device on a long thin film and then laminating the film by a transfer process. A base film to be a substrate in a liquid-crystal panel preferably has a thickness of 10 &#x3bc;m to 200 &#x3bc;m, a curvature radius of 40 mm or less as a measure of flexibility and a coefficient of thermal expansion of 50 ppm/&#xb0; C. or less. Furthermore, it more preferably gives a variation of &#xb1;5% or less in mechanical and optical properties to a thermal history at 200&#xb0; C.

Light-condensing film, liquid-crystal panel and backlight as well as manufacturing process for light-condensing film

A large liquid crystal display () comprises a light guide plate () arranged on the back side of a liquid crystal panel (). The front surface of the light guide plate () is flat, while the back surface thereof is concave. The upper and lower end faces of the light guide plate () respectively facing hot cathode fluorescent lamps () have a convex shape projecting toward the respective lamps. White light from the fluorescent lamps is incident on the upper and lower end faces of the light guide plate directly or by being reflected by reflectors (), and propagates within the light guide plate while being reflected by the front and back surfaces of the light guide plate. At the front surface of the light guide plate, a part of the white light is directed toward the back side of the liquid crystal panel () by a light guide portion ().

To provide a rear-projection type screen in which, without the need for a tape-attachment operation on the outer circumferential part of the lens sheets, the top of the Fresnel lens can be prevented from being pared by the abrasion caused by the vibration during transportation. A rear-projection type screen according to the present invention is configured from two or more overlapping sheet-like members such as a Lenticular lens sheetand Fresnel lens sheet, in which a fixing protrusionis integrally formed in the sheet-like members in such way that neither of the two sheet-like members is displaced from the state in which the two sheet-like members overlap. A protrusion, used to attach the rear-projection type screen to the main body of a rear-projection-type image display apparatus or the screen frame, may be integrally formed in the sheet-like members from which the rear-projection type screen is configured. In addition, a protrusion, which produces a gap between the top of a lens in one of the sheet-like members and the other sheet-like member in a state in which the two sheet-like members overlap, may be integrally formed in the sheet-like members.

Method for manufacturing rear-projection type screen having sheets with protrusions integrally formed thereon
