A fuel distillation property determining apparatus for use in a multi-injection system for diesel engines. The apparatus acquires a physical quantity indicating a state of burning of fuel in the diesel engine, determines a physical quantity variation sensitivity defined by a ratio of a quantity variation that is a difference between a first value of the physical quantity, as acquired upon execution of a first one of a sequence of sub-injections, and a second value of the physical quantity, as acquired upon execution of a following one of the sub-injections, to a difference between a first quantity of fuel sprayed in the first sub-injection and a second quantity of fuel sprayed in the following sub-injection, and determine a cetane value of the fuel based on a predefined relation between the physical quantity variation sensitivity and the cetane value. This ensures the accuracy in determining the cetane value at low costs.

Fuel distillation property determining apparatus and method

A fuel injection control device controls an operation of an injector such that fuel to be injected into a combustion chamber per combustion cycle is divided and injected at least through a first injection and a second injection, which is performed with a larger fuel quantity than the first injection after the first injection. The fuel injection control device includes an acquiring section and a first combustion state estimating section. The acquiring section acquires a sensing value of cylinder pressure in the combustion chamber sensed with a cylinder pressure sensor. The first combustion state estimating section estimates an actual combustion state of the fuel injected by the first injection based upon a second combustion timing cylinder pressure sensing value attributable to combustion of the fuel injected by the second injection out of the cylinder pressure sensing values.

Fuel injection control device and fuel injection control system

An apparatus is provided to control injection of fuel into an engine with a combustion engine. The fuel is injected into the combustion chamber as a preliminary sub injection and a main injection following the preliminary sub injection. The preliminary sub injection repeats one or more times and is less in an amount of the fuel than the main injection. The apparatus comprises acquisition means and a control unit. The acquisition means acquires a parameter showing at least one of a state of an exhaust gas exhausted from the cylinder after the combustion of the fuel and a constituent of the exhaust gas. The control unit includes variably setting means for variably setting a mode of the preliminary sub injection depending on the parameter acquired by the acquisition means.

A fuel injection nozzle is formed with a nozzle hole group including at least two individual nozzle holes, which are disposed close to each other. Fuel is injected through the nozzle hole group. In at least one combination of two adjacent individual nozzle holes included in the same nozzle hole group, at least one of the two adjacent individual nozzle holes is configured such that each of the at least one of the two adjacent individual nozzle holes has a diameter, the diameter increasing only toward a corresponding adjacent one of the two adjacent individual nozzle holes along a direction from an inside to an outside of the each of the at least one of the two adjacent individual nozzle holes, and the diameter being maximized at an outer opening of the each of the at least one of the two adjacent individual nozzle holes.

Fuel injection nozzle

An engine control apparatus comprised of an engine control ECU has a program preloaded therein for determining a combustion rate (actual combustion rate) corresponding to the ratio of an ideal heat generation quantity (target heat generation quantity) estimated to be generated from a fuel supply quantity, and an actual heat generation quantity actually generated by the fuel supply quantity. The engine control apparatus controls pilot injection timing with a controlled variable corresponding to the thus determined combustion rate so as to increase the combustion rate.

In a fuel injection nozzle including multiple nozzle hole groups each having multiple solitary nozzle holes, a group distance C between two of the nozzle hole groups is 0.8 or more times larger than an in-group hole distance &#x3b1; in a nozzle hole group. The group distance C is the minimum interval of inter-group intervals that are formed between (i) peripheral boundaries of solitary nozzle holes belonging to a first nozzle hole group and (ii) peripheral boundaries of solitary nozzle holes belonging to a second nozzle hole group adjacent to the first nozzle hole group. The in-group hole distance &#x3b1; is the minimum of intervals between peripheral boundaries belonging to each nozzle hole group.

A fuel injection nozzle includes: an injection outlet having a plurality of injection holes. Each injection hole has an injection hole diameter defined as D, an outlet port and a center axis. The center axes of the injection holes cross at a cross point with a cross angle. A cross point distance between each outlet port of the injection holes and the cross point is defined as X. The cross angle of the center axes of the injection holes is defined as &#x3b8;. The cross point distance X is in a range between 10 D and 100 D, and the cross angle &#x3b8; is in a range between 1&#xb0; and 10&#xb0;.

Fuel injection nozzle having multiple injection holes

A compression ignition engine injects fuel through injection holes of an injector at a substantially constant injection rate to atomize the fuel so that the fuel can be easily vaporized and to make the fuel penetrate an atmosphere inside a cylinder. A spatial distribution of the injected fuel in which mixing of the fuel and air is promoted as the fuel recedes from the injection hole and the fuel reaches a premixing space where the fuel is premixed with the air is provided. The engine controls oxygen concentration inside the cylinder and an ignition delay so that a ratio of a quantity of the fuel injected before a start of ignition to a total fuel injection quantity falls within a range from 25% to 50% and so that the premixed gas formed in the premixing space is combusted serially.
