Flow meter using digital signals

In an ultrasonic flow meter for measuring a flow rate of a fluid flowing through a conduit by detecting a propagating time difference between a forward propagating time of an ultrasonic wave propagating within the conduit in a forward direction and a backward propagating time of an ultrasonic wave propagating within the conduit in a backward direction, forward and backward ultrasonic wave signals generated by ultrasonic vibrating elements are sampled to derive forward and backward digital data series x and y, which are stored in a memory, the forward and backward digital data series x and y are read out of the first and second memory units and total sums of absolute difference values between the forward and backward digital data series x and y are calculated, while data positions of these backward and forward digital data series x and y are relatively shifted, a shift amount of data positions at which a total sum of absolute difference values becomes minimum is detected, an ultrasonic propagating time difference is derived in accordance with the detected shift amount of data positions, a flow speed of the fluid within the conduit is derived from the ultrasonic wave propagating time difference, and a flow rate of the fluid flowing through the conduit is derived in accordance with the flow speed and a known cross sectional area of the conduit.

Ultrasonic flow meter

A flow meter outputs an electric signal of a position a float within a taper-shaped tube precisely. A taper-shaped tube is made of an approximately transparent material, is mounted approximately vertically, and circulates a fluid such as water or the like, and a float is arranged within the taper-shaped tube so as to displace in a vertical direction in correspondence to a flow rate of the fluid. An LED irradiates a light ray to the taper-shaped tube and the float, makes the light ray to transmit through the taper-shaped tube, and generates a transmitted light ray. The image sensor outputs a digital image of the float within the taper-shaped tube, and a control portionexecutes an input process of the digital signal detects the position of the float, and outputs an electric signal showing a flow rate of the fluid.

An ultrasonic flow meter for determining the flow rate of fluid flowing through tubings. The ultrasonic flow meter comprises a measuring tube having a diameter constant in its entire length, and two ring shaped oscillators disposed longitudinally along the tube so as to substantially intimately contact the inner peripheral surface thereof with the outer peripheral surface of the tube. The one of said two oscillators is energized by electric AC energy to generate an ultrasonic wave, and the thus generated ultrasonic wave is detected by means of the other oscillator, and vice versa. Then the time required for propagating the ultrasonic wave from the upstream oscillator to the downstream oscillator, and that from the downstream oscillator to the upstream oscillator is measured, and the difference between the measured times is calculated by means of an arithmetric circuit to determine the velocity of the fluid flowing through the measuring tube.

An ultrasonic flow meter for determining the flow rate of fluid flowing through tubings. The ultrasonic flow meter comprises a measuring tube having a diameter constant in its entire length, and three ring shaped oscillators disposed longitudinally along the tube so as to intimately contact the inner peripheral surface thereof with the outer peripheral surface of the tube. The central oscillator of said three oscillators is energized by electric AC energy to generate an ultrasonic wave. The thus generated ultrasonic wave is detected by means of forward and rearward oscillators. The ultrasonic wave detected by the forward oscillator and that detected by the rearward oscillator are processed by means of a comparator to obtain the flow rate of the fluid flowing through the measuring tube.

The flow meter is free from an external fluid flow noise. The detector has measuring pipe 1, inlet 2 and outlet 3 both axially lined up with base axis X. Pipe 1 is a straight one with opposite upstream and downstream closed ends, provided in each of which ends is echo sounder 4a, 4b capable of both transmitting and receiving the ultrasound. Inlet 2 is connected with a side of the upstream end via bent 2a. Outlet 3 is connected with another side of the downstream end via another bent 3a, which another side is radially opposite to the former side part in pipe 1 so that pipe 1 is tilted at a certain angle from base axis X which is axially lined up with axes of both inlet 2 and outlet 3; and, a center of base axis X coincides with a center of a flow path of a measured fluid inside pipe 1. Detector for an ultrasonic flow meter

In an area flow meter, float 22 made of material larger in specific gravity than a fluid being measured is movably disposed in vertical pipe 21. Magnet 23 in the float 22 has its north and south poles aligned vertically to produce magnetic-force lines 26 symmetrically with respect to its symmetry axis. Magnetism-gathering tapered element 27 made of a high-permeability material is configured to flare outwardly from its fixed end to its free end to have their fixed ends mounted on magnetism-responsive surfaces of magnetic sensors 'A' which are at the same distance from the symmetry axis and disposed outside the pipe on a plane perpendicular to the axis. The flux caught by the elements 27 is gathered on the surfaces to boost only output sensitivity required for detection of the float in position.

The detector is a foldable one constructed of unit elements 1a-1n connected with each other through hinge members 6. The members 6 are staggered in arrangement along the longitudinal direction of the unfolded or stretched detector so as to permit the detector to be folded in staggered manner. In storage and transport, the detector is folded to facilitate its handling. In installation, the detector is unfolded or stretched to assume a long-reach form to facilitate its installation in a liquid-level gauge system of a storage tank 13.

Hinged long-reach magnetic detector for liquid level measurements

A method and an apparatus for measuring a flow rate of a gas such as a blow by gas in a reciprocating internal combustion engine in which condensable components and mists are contained are disclosed. The method for measuring the flow rate of the gas is characterized in that only after the condensable components and the mists contained in the gas to be measured have been removed from the gas the flow rate of the gas is measured. The apparatus for carrying out the method comprises a condensable components/mists removing portion, a gas flow rate measuring portion and a piping means to connect the above two portions, whereby the condensable components/mists removing portion is constituted by a column-like vessel into which the gas is introduced at its lower portion, and the gas has the mists removed by impinging upon the gas deflecting means provided within the vessel, the gas having the condensable components removed by cooling the gas to a temperature close to the atmospheric temperature. The gas thus having the condensable components and mists contained therein removed is fed to the gas flow rate measuring portion through the piping portion to have its flow rate measured by a gas flow meter, in particular by a thermal micro-tube type gas flow meter.
