An image reader (A) includes a plurality of light sources () arranged in line, the light from which travels through a channel () and irradiates a linear read area (S). The channel () is divided into a plurality of sections () by a plurality of partitions (). Thus, uniform brightness is obtained in the whole part of the linear read area (S), including both ends and the central part.

The scribe line is constituted by a large number of depressed portions of desired depth formed by radiation of a laser beam in a surface of the raw substrate corresponding to a boundary line between adjacent insulating substrates so that the depressed portions are arranged in a line at fixed pitch intervals along the boundary line, and a portion where the pitch intervals of the depressed portions are reduced is provided over a desired length on the way of the scribe line, or a portion where the depth of the depressed portions is increased is provided over a desired length on the way of each of the scribe lines.

Structure used for manufacturing a line-type heater

An electrical connection structure includes a circuit board provided at an edge thereof with a plurality of external connection terminals, a flexible flat cable provided at an edge thereof with a plurality of connection terminals in corresponding relationship to the external connection terminals of the circuit board, and a corresponding number of clips. Each of the clips has a first clamping portion open in a first direction for inserting the circuit board, and a second clamping portion open in a second direction opposite to the first direction for inserting the flexible flat cable.

Connector

A recess portion is provided in a portion in the upper surface 1a of the stay member correspondingly to one longitudinal side edge of the insulating substrate so that a portion of the one longitudinal side edge faces the recess portion 6, so that the insulating substrate can crack by a heat accumulation effect in this portion facing the recess portion.

Thermal printhead, and clip-type terminal lead and cover member used

An electrical connector for a circuit board is provided which comprises a connector housing having a pin retaining wall which is provided with a plurality of insertion holes, and a plurality of terminal pins each having a stem portion for insertion into a corresponding one of the insertion holes. Each of the terminal pins includes a clip portion arranged outside the connector housing. The clip portion includes an opposed pair of legs extending from a connecting web away from the pin retaining wall of the connector housing. The opposed pair of legs approach each other in a direction away from the connecting web but being elastically openable for engagement with the circuit board.

Electrical connector and thermal printhead using the same

In a connector used in a print head, each of a plurality of terminal pins has at one end portion thereof an integral grip portion for gripping a circuit board. The terminal pins are spaced a predetermined distance from one anther in juxtaposed relation to one another, with the grip portions disposed at the same side. Each of the terminal pins is inserted into a connector housing from the other end portion of the terminal pin, so that the terminal pins are attached to the connector housing.

Connector and printer head using the same

A drive IC for a printing head is rectangular with first and second longer sides, and first and second shorter sides. The drive IC has a multiplicity of drive output pads arranged adjacent to and along the first longer side. The drive IC also has control signal pads which include at least a data-in pad, a data-out pad, a strobe pad, a logic power supply pad, and a clock pad. The control signal pads are arranged adjacent to the respective shorter sides.

Drive IC for a printing head

A thermal printhead is provided which comprises an insulating head substrate, a conductor pattern formed on the head substrate, a row of heating dots formed on the head substrate in electrical conduction with the conductor pattern, an array of drive ICs mounted on the head substrate and spaced from the row of heating dots, a resin body enclosing the array of drive ICs, and a protective coating covering the conductor pattern together with the row of heating dots. The protective coating comprises a smaller thickness portion at least at the row of heating dots, and a larger thickness portion held in contact with the resin body and extending to a position short of the row of heating dots.

Thermal printhead

A printing head comprises an elongate head substrate provided with a line of printing dots along a first longitudinal edge of the substrate, and an array of drive IC's provided on the head substrate along a second longitudinal edge of the substrate. The substrate is further provided with a plurality of connection terminals adjacent to the second longitudinal edge. The drive IC array is rendered shorter than the printing dot line to provide two excess portions at both ends of the head substrate, and the connection terminals are locally arranged within the respective excess end portions without overlapping the drive IC array longitudinally of the head substrate.

Printing head and printer incorporating the same

A line-type thermal printing head comprises an elongate heat sink plate, an elongate head substrate mounted on the heat sink plate and carrying connection terminals arranged generally in a longitudinally central portion of the head substrate, a connector board overlapped on the central portion of the substrate board and having connection terminals corresponding to the connection terminals of the substrate board, and an elongate cover member overlapped on the connector board and provided with an elastic pressing member. The elastic pressing member comprises a diametrically larger portion for contact with the connector board and a pair of diametrically smaller portions located on both sides of the diametrically larger portion clear of the connector board.
