A plane keyboard equipped with a usual key input function and Braille input function is disclosed. The keyboard comprises a key input circuit in the form of a key matrix. In the key matrix, no two predetermined key switches of the keyboard, which are assigned as both Braille input function keys, are connected to any one of scan lines. This key input device is free from occurrence of a ghost key when a Braille input function is realized using, for example, a six-point-input system in which six keys assigned to realize the Braille input function are simultaneously operable.

An apparatus and method for controlling a start operation for a computer system is provided for. The computer system includes at least one slot for mounting an expansion memory module and a memory bus coupled to the slot. The memory module has a specified operating frequency and the memory bus has an established operating frequency. In order to prevent malfunctions of the computer system due to the mounting of an improper expansion memory module, which has a specified operating frequency that is not in conformity with the established operating frequency for the memory bus, the apparatus controls the POST operation depending on the comparison of the specified operating frequency of the mounted memory module in the slot and the established operating frequency for the memory bus.

Data input from a USB keyboard or mouse to a USB host controller is transformed by an SM-BIOS into data corresponding to a PS/2 keyboard/mouse, and then transferred to the I/O port (60h/64h) of a standard bus interface via the shadow port of a KBC. The KBC generates IRQ1 (IRQ12) similar to the case wherein it receives data from the PS/2 keyboard or mouse, thereby starting a keyboard driver.

A portable computer system includes a keyboard for inputting at least a password, and a main CPU for controlling the system operation to perform a data processing. Dedicated registers are arranged in a status LCD control gate array connected to a system bus, and the dedicated registers or register group and a keyboard controller are connected through a keyboard interface bus. The keyboard controller has two ports for communicating with a CPU. The keyboard controller transfers existing commands released to an application program or the like and transmits normal key data through the system bus. The keyboard controller transmits hot key data and transfers a command for realizing any other special function through the keyboard interface bus and the dedicated registers.
