A loading/unloading type magnetic disk unit includes a magnetic disk that is rotated or driven by a motor, and a head slider bearing a magnetic head and being movable above the magnetic disk owing to a driving mechanism. Herein, at least one projection made of a highly conductive material is formed on the surface of the head slider opposed to the magnetic disk. When the magnetic disk unit is in operation, conduction to the spindle motor is discontinued after the elapse of a predetermined time. Thus, the height by which the head slider floats is decreased so that the projections come into contact with the magnetic disk. Consequently, a charge on the magnetic disk escapes through the housing of the magnetic disk unit via the head slider. Thus, when the loading/unloading type magnetic disk unit is in operation, a charge on the magnetic disk can be removed.

A head slider comprising a slider body provided with an air bearing surface arranged in one surface of the slider body and a tapered surface arranged adjacent to an air introducing end of the air bearing surface. The head slider is provided with an adhesion-free slider structure, and includes at least one first pad formed on and projecting from the air bearing surface. The first pad is located close to a joint portion between the air bearing surface and the tapered surface. The head slider is also provided with at least one second pad formed on and projecting from the tapered surface, which is located close to the joint portion and away from the first pad. A distance between the first pad and the second pad in an air flow direction may preferably be determined to be at least twice a dimensional tolerance, in the air flow direction, of the tapered surface.

Head slider

An air-bearing head slider for supporting an electromagnetic transducer opposite to a rotating recording media or magnetic disk. A slider body has a surface having a leading or air-entry side and a trailing or air-delivery side. Two rails are provided on the surface of the slider body and has floating surfaces opposite to the rotating magnetic disk for generating a floating force. The two side rails extend along a direction of air flow generated by the rotation of the magnetic disk and define a relatively shallow groove between these two rails. The groove has a width-enlarged portion at which the width of the groove is enlarged, so that a negative pressure is generated in such a manner that the slider body is attracted to the rotating magnetic disk. Inclined surfaces are formed on the air-entry sides of the floating surfaces of the rails. An inclination angle of the inclined surface is not more than 3.degree. and not less than 0.5.degree. and a length of the inclined surface is not less than 50 .mu.m and not more than a half of a length of the rails in the direction of air flow.
