A process for treating a liquid crystal polymer film which includes the steps of: heating a film obtained by extrusion molding of a liquid crystal polymer, while contacting at least one surface of the film with a supporting body, to melt the polymer; cooling the melted polymer to form a solidified polymer layer; and separating the solidified polymer layer from the supporting body. The process readily provides liquid crystal polymer films having excellent resistance to intra-layer delamination and high tensile strength and elongation, as well as excellent resistance to abrasion, dimensional stability when heated, and resistance to folding.

This invention provides a gas-barrier multilayered packaging material which comprises an outer layer of a composition comprising 55-97 wt % of an EVCOH and 45-3 wt % of a resin selected from the group consisting of polyamide, polyolefin, polyester and polycarbonate and an inner layer comprising a hydrophobic thermoplastic resin having a low moisture permeability; and further provides a gas-barrier multilayered packaging material which comprises an outer layer comprising a resin layer having a moisture permeability (measured at 40.degree. C., 90% RH) of at least 40 g/m.sup.2 day, an intermediate layer of a composition comprising 55 to 97% by weight of an EVOH and 45 to 3% by weight of a resin selected from the group consisting of polyamide, polyolefin, polyester and polycarbonate and an inner layer comprising a hydrophobic thermoplastic resin layer having a moisture permeability lower than that of the outer layer. Both of them are useful as packaging materials to be used for boil sterilization or retort sterilization.

Multilayered packaging materials having high gas barrier property

The present invention provides resin compositions comprising a blend of two different saponified products of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers. The composition is much improved compared to a single EVOH in flexibility without adversely affecting the transparency and gas barrier property. Laminate films comprising at least one layer of said composition are excellent in resistance to dropping shock, ability to prevent air-back, skin-pack adaptability and shrink-packaging capability.

Resin compositions and multi-layered structures utilizing the same

Provided are multilayered containers comprising a layer of a composition comprising a gas barrier resin, particularly ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer, incorporating an inorganic powder such as mica, and a layer of a composition comprising a thermoplastic resin incorporating an inorganic powder such as mica. The containers are excellent in gas barrier properties, particularly in gas barrier properties after being retorted, while showing very little deformation during retort treatment, and further excellent in mechanical strengths.

Multilayered container

The present invention provides a heat-resistant container comprising an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer layer and a crystalline polyester layer. In particular, when an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer containing a drying agent is used, the obtained container is both ovenable and retortable, thereby being highly useful.

A composition comprising a matrix of an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer having dispersed therein a granular drying agent in a particulate state, wherein the volume-area average diameter of the grains of drying agent having a long dia meter of not less than 10.mu. is not greater than 30.mu.. A multi-layer structure comprising layers of such a composition. The gas barrier property of the multi-layer structure is not substantially reduced after a retort treatment and thus, the multi-layer structure is extremely useful for packaging of food, especially packaging of retorted food.

A resinous composition composed of a thermoplastic resin, a saponified product of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, and a low-molecular salt or oxide containing at least one element selected from Groups I to III of the Periodic Table. The composition provides molded items which are free of fish eyes and superior in gas barrier properties.
