The present invention is a mobile device capable of transmitting or receiving wireless signals and incorporating an FPC shielded RF signal conductor for connecting transmitter and/or receiver circuitry to an associated RF antenna or antennas. In some embodiments FCP may incorporate the antenna in an unshielded section of the FPC. In some embodiments a single FPC may provide for multiple RF carrier conductors each with their own associated shielding.

Method for assigning control channels

Various EMI shields with thermal management capabilities are disclosed. In one aspect, an EMI shield is provided that includes a thermal spreader plate adapted to be seated on and convey heat from an electromagnetic emissions generating component. The thermal spreader plate has a first material composition and a shield effectiveness that is absorption dominant to electromagnetic waves at a given electromagnetic emissions frequency. The EMI shield also includes a shell to cover and reflect electromagnetic emissions from the electromagnetic emissions generating component. The shell has a second material composition different than the first material composition and a shield effectiveness that is reflection dominant to electromagnetic waves at the given electromagnetic emissions frequency.

Combined electromagnetic shield and thermal management device

A device is configured to evaluate electromagnetic characteristics of an integrated circuit. The device includes a fluid chamber, a first impeller, a second impeller, and a radio frequency measurement antenna. The fluid chamber is configured to receive the integrated circuit and to cool the integrated circuit. The first impeller is disposed within the fluid chamber and configured to distribute a first electromagnetic field produced by the integrated circuit within the fluid chamber along a first axis. The second impeller is within the fluid chamber and configured to distribute the first electromagnetic field produced by the integrated circuit within the fluid chamber along a second axis. The radio frequency measurement antenna is disposed proximate the fluid chamber and configured to measure an electric field and a magnetic field of the first electromagnetic field.

System and method for evaluating the electromagnetic compatibility of integrated circuits in an in-situ environment

An apparatus for reducing the electromagnetic interference between two or more co-located antennas is described herein. In one embodiment, the apparatus is positioned proximate to a second antenna for intercepting electromagnetic energy radiated from a first antenna during transmission of a signal. To reduce interference at the second antenna, the apparatus includes a plurality of resonant circuit elements, each being configured to resonate at or near a carrier frequency of the transmitted signal for redirecting at least a portion of the electromagnetic energy away from the second antenna. A method for reducing the electromagnetic interference between two or more antennas coupled to a wireless communication device is also disclosed herein.

Various methods are disclosed herein for forming an apparatus, which is configured to reduce the electromagnetic interference between a pair of antennas coupled to a wireless communication device. In some embodiments, the method includes extracting a shape of the apparatus from a thin sheet of conductive material, and folding the shape into a plurality of resonant circuit elements. In other embodiments, the apparatus is formed within various cavities of a mold; a liquefied substance may be inserted into the mold for filling the various cavities and forming a plurality of resonant circuit elements. In all embodiments, the plurality of resonant circuit elements are each configured to resonate at (or near) a carrier frequency of a signal transmitted by one of the pair of antennas.

A chassis shielding effectiveness evaluation system includes a chassis having a chassis ground. A board is located in the chassis and includes a board ground layer. A signal generator includes at least one ground member coupled to the chassis ground and a signal member coupled to the board ground layer. The signal generator is operable to send a signal through the signal member to the board ground layer.

An antenna system for an electronic device enables the device to communicate via numerous wireless communication protocols, such as wireless broadband communication protocols. The antenna is able to extend from the body of the electronic device in order to meet efficiency and specific absorption rate requirements, while retracting into the footprint of the device when not in use. The antenna is easily disassembled and reassembled from the device without the use of tools, and may automatically disassemble from the device in order to avoid sustaining damage or exposing a user to excessive electromagnetic radiation.

Integrated external antenna

A portable electronic device is provided for sending and receiving a communication signal to and from a target, respectively. Among other components, the portable electronic device includes an antenna, a transceiver, a signal processing system and control circuitry. The signal processing system determines a distance between the target and the portable electronic device. There are various ways to determine the relative distance between the target and the device. One such methodology is to use a change in a signal that is transmitted from the transceiver and reflected from the target back to the transceiver. The change can be a frequency shift, a phase shift, a capacitive coupling change, an impedance change, or any other change which notes the presence of a target relative to the transceiver. The control circuitry may be used to change the amount of power applied to the antenna and/or to change at least one security measure of the device depending on the distance detected between the target and the device.

A portable computer having a partially sealed cooling system is disclosed. The portable computer contains heat transfer materials that function to remove heat from a sealed area of the portable computer to an unsealed area where the heat may be more effectively dissipated. A portable computer having a power source shield is also disclosed. The shield may be formed to partially surround a portion of the power source, and may be formed by partially enclosing a power source in a conductive material; forming an opening in the conductive material on one side of the power source; installing the power source near an edge of the electronic device; and orienting the power source so that the opening faces the edge of the electronic device.

A system for reducing electromagnetic interference between two or more co-located antennas is described herein. In one embodiment, the system includes a first antenna for transmitting a first signal within a first frequency band, and a second antenna for operating within a second frequency band during transmission of the first signal. The first and second frequency bands may be substantially identical, or may occupy overlapping or nearby channels within the radio frequency spectrum. The system also includes an apparatus. In one embodiment, the apparatus is positioned proximate to the second antenna for intercepting the electromagnetic energy radiated from the first antenna during transmission of the first signal. In other embodiments, the apparatus may be positioned proximate to the first antenna for intercepting the electromagnetic energy radiated from the second antenna during transmission of a second signal. In either embodiment, the apparatus is able to reduce electromagnetic interference between the first and second antennas by scattering (or redirecting) radiated energy away from either the first antenna or the second antenna.

The present invention provides a tablet computer and a docking station assembly. This docking station includes a docking assembly for positioning with three degrees of freedom and having a data connector for mechanically supporting and interfacing with the tablet computer. A support member couples the docking assembly to an expansion base. The base includes a number of ports for interfacing with a variety of peripheral devices or power supplies. These varieties of ports mount to a printed circuit board contained within the expansion base. A flexible printed circuit (FPC) combines the signal pathways for the variety of ports, allowing the signal pathways to travel from the printed circuit board and to the data connector. The tablet computing device has a plurality of contact or touch points positioned on the right and left edges of the tablet to facilitate aligning the tablet to the docking assembly in either a landscape or portrait mode.
