A display system for providing information display. The display system includes a display device, and control circuitry that controls the display device to display a gauge graphic including a scale for a vehicle parameter and a needle movable on the scale. The scale comprises a plurality of regions. The control circuitry further receives a first value of the vehicle parameter. The control circuitry further controls, based on a determination that the first value is between a first predetermined threshold and a second predetermined threshold, the display of a background color gradient on a first region of the plurality of regions based on the first value. The control circuitry further extends the background color gradient on a second region of the plurality of regions based on a determination that the first value exceeds the second predetermined threshold. The second region displays a solid color based on the background color gradient.

A cylinder intake air amount calculating apparatus for an internal combustion engine that calculates a cylinder intake air amount, which is an amount of fresh air sucked in a cylinder of the engine using an intake air pipe model equation which is obtained by modeling an intake pipe of the engine, is provided. An intake air flow rate is obtained. The cylinder intake air amount is calculated by applying the intake air flow rate and a preceding value of the cylinder intake air amount to the intake pipe model equation. A predicted intake air flow rate which is a predicted value of the intake air flow rate is calculated. A predicted cylinder intake air amount which is a predicted value of the cylinder intake air amount is calculated by applying the predicted intake air flow rate and the cylinder intake air amount to the intake pipe model equation.

Cylinder intake air amount calculating apparatus for internal combustion engine

A method of controlling fuel composition learning includes steps of monitoring changes in airflow within an engine to determine steady state conditions. The method further includes steps of initiating a fuel composition learning process during steady state conditions. A current fuel component concentration factor is updated using a temporary fuel component concentration factor. The temporary fuel component concentration factor is calculated as the average of an air/fuel correction factor. Once the current fuel component concentration factor is updated, the temporary fuel component concentration factor is reset. The air/fuel correction factor is reset to reflect any difference that existed between the temporary fuel component concentration factor and the air/fuel correction factor at the update time.

Method of controlling fuel composition learning

A cylinder intake air amount calculating apparatus for an internal combustion engine for calculating a cylinder intake air amount which is an amount of fresh air sucked into a cylinder of the engine, is provided. An intake air flow rate, which is a flow rate of fresh air passing through an intake air passage of the engine, is obtained, and an intake pressure and an intake air temperature of the engine are detected. A theoretical cylinder intake air amount is calculated based on the intake pressure, the intake air temperature, and a volume of the cylinder. A volumetric efficiency of the engine is calculated by dividing a preceding calculated value of the cylinder intake air amount by the theoretical cylinder intake air amount. The cylinder intake air amount is calculated using the volumetric efficiency, the intake air flow rate, and the preceding calculated value of the cylinder intake air amount.

A method and a system for controlling an intake system for an engine is disclosed. The method includes steps for selecting an intake mode according to the current engine speed and the current cylinder mode. The method may be used for controlling an intake system in conjunction with a multi-displacement engine having one or more cylinders that may be deactivated.

Method for controlling an intake system

An engine idle stability control method and system using feedback from alternator of a motor vehicle is described. An excitation current of the alternator is detected and used to predict an alternator torque value. The predicted alternator torque is used to determine an adjustment to engine torque output. Engine torque output is adjusted to compensate for the predicted alternator torque and engine idle stability is maintained.

A system to cool exhaust gas entering a catalytic converter in a turbocharged engine is disclosed. An air bypass valve is controlled to vent pressurized air to the atmosphere to overrev a turbocharger when exhaust gas exceeds a predetermined temperature. The rotation of the turbocharger increases to maintain a desired boost pressure. When this occurs, the turbocharger absorbs more energy from the exhaust gas to maintain the desired boost pressure. Thus, the exhaust gas entering the catalytic converter is cooled.

A method of controlling a cylinder deactivation system is disclosed. Information from one or more sensors is received by a control unit. The control unit compares the current values of a parameter with one or more prohibited ranges in order to determine if cylinder deactivation should be prohibited. The one or more prohibited ranges are discrete ranges, each with a lower limit and an upper limit.

A method of controlling a fuel injector is disclosed. Multiple airflow rate regimes are associated with different fuel injection control methods.
