It is desirable for a merchant to not store customer PCI (Payment Card Industry) data in the merchant's system, because this would reduce cost and risk to the merchant. But the merchant still wants access to the customer primary account number (PAN) and other PCI data elements for customer authentication, customer relationship management, etc. Therefore, this specification discloses systems and methods that allow a pPOS (personal Point of Sale) device to create a mirror of the original transaction and provide that to the merchant. Then the merchant would still have access to the customer PAN and other PCI data elements, but there are no PCI or payment data in the mirror transaction, so cost and risk are reduced for the merchant.

A transaction is conducted at a merchant location using redeemed loyalty points maintained in a loyalty point account for a customer. The transactions are conducted using a mobile device at a POS terminal. In response to receiving a customer ID from the mobile device, a loyalty server provides the monetary value of loyalty points. The customer may use the mobile device to redeem those points and have the value transferred into a financial account. A payment processing system connected to the POS terminal completes the transaction using the financial account.

A method for detecting fraudulent use of a payment media using a transit server includes receiving, at a transit server, an input from a payment media as part of a payment transaction at a first transit fare vending machine. Information indicative of improper use of the payment media is received from one or more of a second transit fare vending machine or the issuer of the payment account. A determination is made, based on the information, that the payment media is being used improperly. An improper use alert is communicated to an enforcement authority. The improper use alert includes identification information related to the payment transaction.
