The invention describes a ready-to-use injectable cephalosporin composition with reasonable viscosity, resuspendability, and syringeability attributes for injection as an antibiotic for animals.

Ready-to-use injectable formulations

The present disclosure relates generally to sol-gel polymer composites that comprise chitosan, a hydrophilic polymer, a polysiloxane, and a gelation agent in a suitable medium. Advantageously, the sol-gel polymer composite can form a durable seal or strong solid in response to one or more physiological stimulus. The disclosure further relates to medical and veterinary uses of the composite, particularly, methods and delivery systems for reducing or preventing the incidence of a mammary disorder in a dairy animal. More particularly, the disclosure includes methods and sol-gel polymer composite compositions for creating a physical barrier on the teat surface or in the teat canal or cistern of a non-human animal for prophylactic treatment of mammary disorders such as mastitis wherein the sol-gel polymer creates a seal in response to one or more physiological stimulus.

Preferably, the growth hormone releasing factor is present in an aqueous liquid at a dose of about 200 mg and at a concentration of about 180 mg/ml. The aqueous bovine growth hormone releasing factor formulation provides for the sustained release of bovine somatotropin into the circulatory system of the animal for greater than seven (7) days.

The present invention provides an oil composition for parenteral administration comprising a dihydropolyprenol of formula I and a pharmaceutically acceptable oil ##STR1## wherein n is an integer of 5 to 7.

The present invention provides for the inclusion of small amounts of water in oil suspensions of active drugs, such as ceftiofur hydrochloride of formula I. The resulting suspensions have improved resuspendability. Improved resuspendability results in an improved product because less shaking of the suspension is required before dosing. ##STR1##
