Methods of securing an optical fiber within an optical fiber connector include applying heat to a front-end section of a ferrule through a heating sleeve. The heating sleeve at least partially surrounds the front-end section of the ferrule and heats a bonding agent that resides within the ferrule a securing temperature. The optical fiber is inserted into the optical fiber connector and through the bonding agent. The optical fiber is secured in the ferrule axial bore by the bonding agent when the bonding agent reaches the securing temperature.

Methods of securing an optical fiber within an optical fiber connector using a heating apparatus

According to one embodiment, a magazine apparatus may include a plurality of dividing straps positioned substantially parallel with one another and a plurality of support straps positioned substantially parallel with one another. The plurality of support straps may intersect with the plurality of dividing straps to form a plurality of ware receiving channels. An upper end and a lower end of each ware receiving channel may be at least partially open. The magazine apparatus may also include a plurality of ware seats. Each ware seat may extend at least partially across a corresponding ware receiving channel proximate a lower end of the corresponding ware receiving channel. Each ware seat may provide a seat for glassware positioned in the corresponding ware receiving channel. A plurality of ware spacers may be positioned below and spaced apart from a corresponding ware seat and extending at least partially across the corresponding ware receiving channel.

A method for fabricating an EDLC includes (a) coating a porous activated carbon material onto current collector sheets to form carbon-based electrodes, (b) drying the carbon-based electrodes, (c) winding or stacking carbon-based electrodes interleaved with separator sheets to fabricate a jelly roll or prismatic electrode assembly, (d) inserting the electrode assembly into a package and forming electrical connections between the electrode assembly and package terminals, (e) filling the package with a liquid electrolyte, and (f) sealing the package. Steps (a)-(f) are performed in an atmosphere having a low moisture content. The atmosphere may be vacuum or purged with dry gas.

A container of an electrochemical double-layer capacitor includes a housing, a cap portion adapted to be coupled the housing, an orifice passing through one of the housing or the cap portion, and a vent assembly in fluid communication with the container and secured within the orifice. The housing and the cap portion define an interior envelope of the container, and at least a portion of the vent assembly is located inside the interior envelope of the container.

Methods of validating edge strength of a glass sheet are provided. The glass sheet includes a first surface, a second surface opposing the first surface, a thickness defined between the first surface and the second surface, and at least one edge including an edge surface. The first surface and the second surface intersect the edge surface of the at least one edge. The methods include a step (I) of noncontactually thermally loading the glass sheet to subject at least a portion of the at least one edge to a tensile stress. The methods also include a step (II) of determining whether the at least one edge has an edge strength below a predetermined level by detecting whether a resulting strength imperfection has originated in the glass sheet due to the noncontactual thermal loading of step (I).

A translation mechanism is coupled to the first and second electronic devices. The translation mechanism is configured to guide a motion of at least one of the first and second electronic devices along a nonlinear path such that a travel along the nonlinear path in a forward direction transforms the multi-screen electronic device from the compact form to the expanded form and a travel along the nonlinear path in a reverse direction transforms the multi-screen electronic device from the expanded form to the compact form.

A container of an electrochemical double-layer capacitor for holding electrodes and electrolyte includes a housing having a cavity and a cap portion coupled to the housing forming a fluid-tight reservoir with the cavity. The container also includes a plurality of terminals incorporated into one or more of the housing or the cap portion, where the plurality of terminals adapted to be electrically coupled to the electrodes, and a pressure-compliant membrane incorporated into one of the housing or the cap portion. A pressure monitoring system that monitors the pressure inside the container includes a displacement measuring device adapted to measure a deflection of the pressure-compliant membrane.

A terminal plate for an ultracapacitor package is formed from a single sheet of conductive material and comprising a plurality of bent tabs extending in a direction substantially orthogonal to a first main surface of the terminal plate. The invention is directed to a dispersion compensation module of extremely simple design that does not rely on a spool-and-hub or similar device for holding the optical fiber used in the module, such module being here termed a 'Free-Fiber dispersion compensation module'. In the inventive dispersion compensation module the optical fiber therein is in a relaxed coiled configuration having minimal tension. It has also been discovered that while coil tension is relieved by removing it from the winding spool prior to placing it in the dispersion compensation module, the tension can be further relieved by coating the coiled fiber with a finely powdered substance which will not react with or otherwise harm or damage wither the fiber or the module containing it, for example, talcum powder.

An apparatus and method for making n different types of optical amplifiers on one manufacturing line, n being equal to 2 or more. The method includes providing a supply of at least four functional groups of subunits for each of the circuits which comprise each of the optical amplifiers to be made, where at least one functional group contains at least n different types of sub-units, and where each of the sub-units in three of the functional groups includes a pluggable optical connector half and where each of the sub-units of the fourth of the functional groups includes three pluggable optical connector halves. The method further includes selecting a specific sub-unit from each of the four functional groups and plugging together each of the selected subunits to form an optical amplifier having the desired specification.

Apparatus and method for making an optical fiber amplifier

A component holder has a base and a component holding block extending upward from the base. The component holding block includes a pair of walls, the walls defining between them a channel dimensioned to closely receive an optical component cradled in a resiliently compliant member, such as a pad or a shaped component. An optical component is loaded into the channel by placing the optical component and a resiliently compliant member over the channel and wedging the optical component and the resiliently compliant member into the channel such that the optical component is cradled inside of the resiliently compliant member and such that the optical component and the resiliently compliant member are held in position in the channel by friction.

A box for holding optical components comprising a base having an upper surface for receiving a layer of optical components, the base being attachable into a fiber-optic device. A detachable plug-in pump laser card assembly for placement into an optical fiber amplifier, comprising: a printed circuit board, a heat sink, a pump laser, a first half plug-in member of an optical connector, a second half plug-in member of an electrical connector and a reel having an optical fiber wrapped there around. The heat sink is substantially parallel to the printed circuit board and is separated from the printed circuit board by spacers. The pump laser is connected to one side of the heat sink, which has a plurality of fins on an opposite side from where the pump laser is connected. The first half plug-in member of the optical connector and the second half plug-in member of the electrical connector are each secured to the printed circuit board and are located at an insertion end of the pump laser card assembly. The reel is disposed between the printed circuit board and the heat sink and the optical fiber wrapped around the reel has a first end connected to the pump laser and a second end connected to the first half plug-in member of the optical connector. The detachable plug-in pump laser card assembly is plugged into a port located on a base plate of the optical fiber amplifier, where the first half plug-in member of the optical connector optically engages with a mating member and where the second half plug-in member of the electrical connector electrically engages with a mating member.
