A CO slip catalyst, for treating an exhaust gas from a lean burn internal combustion engine, is disclosed. The CO slip catalyst comprises palladium and a ceria-containing material. The invention also includes a method for oxidizing excess CO in an exhaust gas, wherein the excess CO results from the periodic contact of an upstream catalyst under rich exhaust conditions. The method comprises contacting the excess CO in the exhaust gas with a CO slip catalyst at a temperature in the range of 100 to 700&#xb0; C.

Co slip catalyst and method of using

A three way catalyst includes an extruded solid body having by weight: 10-100% of at least one binder/matrix component; 5-90% of a zeolitic molecular sieve, a non-zeolitic molecular sieve or a mixture of any two or more thereof; and 0-80% optionally stabilised ceria. The catalyst also includes at least one precious metal and optionally at least one non-precious metal, wherein: (i) the at least one precious metal is carried in one or more coating layer(s) on the body surface; (ii) at least one metal is present throughout the body and at least one precious metal is carried in one or more coating layer(s) on a body surface; or (iii) at least one metal is present throughout the body, is present in a higher concentration at a body surface, and at least one precious metal is carried in one or more coating layer(s) on the body surface.

Three way catalyst comprising extruded solid body

A catalyst composition is provided having a zeolite material of a CHA crystal structure and a silica to alumina mole ratio (SAR) of about 10 to about 25 and preferably having a mean crystal size of at least 1.0 microns; and a non-aluminum base metal (M), wherein said zeolite material contains said base metal in a base metal to aluminum ratio (M:Al) of about 0.10 to about 0.24.

The at least one precious metal is carried in a coating layer on a surface of the extruded solid body; at least one metal is present throughout the extruded solid body and at least one precious metal is also carried in a coating layer on a surface of the extruded solid body; or at least one metal is present throughout the extruded solid body, is present in a higher concentration at a surface of the extruded solid body and at least one precious metal is also carried in a coating layer on the surface of the extruded solid body.

Provided is a catalyst comprising (a) a zeolite material having a mean crystal size of at least about 0.5 &#x3bc;m, having a CHA framework that contains silicon and aluminum, and having a silica-to-alumina mole ratio (SAR) of about 10 to about 25; and (b) an extra-framework promoter metal (M) disposed in said zeolite material as free and/or exchanged metal, wherein the extra-framework promoter metal is copper, iron, and mixtures thereof, and is present in a promoter metal-to-aluminum atomic ratio (M:Al) of about 0.10 to about 0.24 based on the framework aluminum; and optionally comprising (c) at least about 1 weight percent of cerium in said zeolite material, based on the total weight of the zeolite, wherein said cerium is present in a form selected from exchanged cerium ions, monomeric ceria, oligomeric ceria, and combinations thereof, provided that said oligomeric ceria has a particle size of less than 5 &#x3bc;m.

An oxidation catalyst comprises an extruded solid body comprising: 10-95% by weight of at least one binder/matrix component; 5-90% by weight of a zeolitic molecular sieve, a non-zeolitic molecular sieve or a mixture of any two or more thereof; and 0-80% by weight optionally stabilized ceria, which catalyst comprising at least one precious metal and optionally at least one non-precious metal, wherein: (i) a majority of the at least one precious metal is located at a surface of the extruded solid body; (ii) the at least one precious metal is carried in one or more coating layer(s) on a surface; (iii) at least one metal is present throughout the extruded solid body and in a higher concentration at a surface; (iv) at least one metal is present throughout the extruded solid body and in a coating layer(s) on a surface; or (v) a combination of (ii) and (iii).

Oxidation catalyst

A catalyst system includes a three-way catalyst (TWC) mounted underfloor and an engine management system programmed to initiate an enrichment of the exhaust gases exiting the engine with at least one of CO and hydrocarbons and to add secondary air to the exhaust gases in the exhaust passage upstream of the TWC. This periodic enrichment and addition of secondary air causes catalytic oxidation of the at least one of CO and hydrocarbons over the TWC thereby raising the underfloor TWC temperature to at least 550&deg; C., preferably higher, in order to reduce sulphur poisoning of the catalyst and maintain the desired catalytic activity.

Method and system for maintaining efficiency of a three-way catalyst

An active metal, particularly cesium, impregnated hydrocarbon adsorbent, such as zeolite, comprises an improved hydrocarbon trap/oxidizing catalyst for use in effectively adsorbing hydrocarbons during automotive cold-start and subsequently desorbing, oxidizing and removing hydrocarbons during warmer operating conditions. The active metal modified hydrocarbon adsorbent may be combined in other forms of multi-layer automotive exhaust gas catalytic structures.

Hydrocarbon trap/catalyst for reducing cold-start emissions from internal combustion engines

Engine exhaust gas emissions are cleaned up using apparatus comprising an electrical heater, a first catalyst for oxidizing CO and H , and a hydrocarbon oxidation catalyst (which may be the same as the first catalyst). Engine management initiates electrical heating upon start-up of the engine, and ensures that there is sufficient CO and H and sufficient additional air supplied to the exhaust system, to provide chemical energy in the form of exotherm, whereby the hydrocarbon oxidation catalyst is speeded in reaching light-off temperature.

Combatting air pollution

Improved platinum group three-way catalyst composition comprising (a) a high temperature catalyst support material, (b) a low temperature catalyst support material, (c) at least one platinum group metal, and (d) a metal additive effective for the suppression of hydrogen sulfide emissions, that is disposed in a separate layer either under or over a layer comprising the constituents (a), (b), and (c), or in the same layer as the constituents (a), (b), and (c). When the metal additive is disposed in the same layer as the constituents (a), (b), and (c), (d) the metal additive is disposed in a physical structure that is segregated from the remaining components in the layer.
