A system and method are disclosed that use a flexible guide (flap) and a scanning method to control the delivery of light dose to a treatment area. This approach overcomes the non-reliable delivery of light dose with a flap that conforms to the target area. Dosimetry control can be improved through the use of a computer controlled motor to move the laser fibers at known speed over the target tissue. In some embodiments, treatment time is reduced and illumination of large surfaces is achieved by using multiple fibers to deliver the light simultaneously.

A dissecting tip is provided for use with a surgical stapler or instrument. In one embodiment, the dissecting tip is secured to the end effector of the surgical instrument, e.g., to the cartridge assembly. The dissecting tip extends distally from the end effector and is configured to dissect or separate target tissue from certain tissue, e.g., adherent, connective, joined or other tissue.

The present invention discloses control catheters and methods for pulmonary suffusion and related therapies. The control catheter may comprise a control end, working end having a first balloon, a minor lumen, and a first and second major lumen. One method of the present invention involves introducing the working end of the catheter into a circulator system of the mammal, positioning the catheter into a desired first lobe pulmonary artery, inflating the minor balloon using the corresponding lumen, positioning the major balloon in the main pulmonary artery, and inflating the major balloon using the corresponding lumen. The method may comprise the additional step of infusing a chemical agent through the distal tip after the inflation of the minor balloon and the major balloon.

Control catheters and methods for pulmonary suffusion and related therapies

An introducer assembly can be releasably coupled to a surgical instrument and includes a collar, a tip, and an elongated body portion disposed between the collar and the tip. The tip may be configured to releasably engage a dissecting device. The collar may releasably couple the introducer assembly to a shaft of a surgical fastener applying apparatus. The tip may have an opening to receive a distalmost end of an end effector of a surgical fastener applying apparatus.
