A protective cover configured for use with an electronic device having antenna regions. The protective cover comprises a protective shell configured to receive the electronic device when the electronic device is installed in the protective cover. The protective shell is configured to contact and cover at least portions of the back and sides of the electronic device when the electronic device is installed in the protective shell. The protective shell includes a first material and a second material where the second material has a dielectric constant that is different than a dielectric constant of the first material in at least one operating frequency range of the electronic device. The second material is present in regions of the protective shell that are in proximity to the antenna regions of the installed electronic device.

A portable protection apparatus includes a protective shield, a handle, a rechargeable battery, electrical circuitry configured to be powered by the rechargeable battery, and a first display element positioned on a first side of the protective shield. The first display element is configured to selectively display an instructional message when directed by the electrical circuitry, wherein the first display element is configured to be visible at a distance from the first side of the protective shield. The portable protection apparatus also includes a second display element positioned on a second side of the protective shield configured to display the instructional message to the user holding the protective shield.

A portable shield includes a protective shield and a handle attached to the protective shield for holding and carrying the portable shield from a first side of the protective shield. The portable shield further includes a battery and a display element powered by the battery. The display is configured for electronically displaying an instructional message that is visible from a second side of the protective shield at a distance, wherein the second side is opposite the first side. The portable shield further includes electronic circuitry powered by the battery that is configured for selectively displaying the instructional message on the display element. In some examples, the portable shield may wirelessly receive information regarding the instructional message from a base station along with other instances of the portable shield.

A protective case for an electronic device includes an outer shell and an inner cushion liner. The inner cushion liner is attached to an inner surface of the outer shell. The inner cushion layer is configured to receive the electronic device when the electronic device is installed in the protective case and is configured to contact and cover at least portions of the back and sides of the installed electronic device. The inner cushion liner comprises a first material for cushioning the installed electronic device as well as one or more regions of a second material configured to be in proximity to one or more antennas or antenna regions of the installed electronic device, respectively. The second material has a lower dielectric constant than the first material in at least a preferred frequency range of the electronic device.

A case for use with a portable electronic device includes a shell, an internal electrical connector, and first and second external electrical connectors. The internal electrical connector is accessible at the interior surface of the shell and adapted for electrically interfacing to a port of the portable electronic device when the portable electronic device is inserted into the shell. The first external electrical connector is accessible at the exterior surface of the shell and adapted for conducting first electrical signals from the inserted portable electronic device through the internal electrical connector and through the first external electrical connector to a first external electrical device. The second external electrical connector is accessible at the exterior surface of the shell and adapted for conducting second electrical signals from a second external electrical device to the inserted portable electronic device through the second external electrical connector and through the internal electrical connector.

A case for an electronic device includes a shell and at least three electrical connectors. The shell receives the electronic device and covers at least a portion of the electronic device. A first electrical connector is on an interior of the shell and electrically connects the case to an electrical interface of the electronic device when the electronic device is installed in the case. A method of operating a data system in accordance with the invention includes a computer processor configured for receiving a viewing direction of a first party, where the first party is looking in the viewing direction to view a menu of information. The method further includes identifying a portion of the menu based on the viewing direction of the first party and displaying, to a second party, one or more menu choices associated with the identified portion of the menu. The method may also include receiving, from the second party, a selection of one of the one or more menu choices where the selection of the one menu choice by the second party is based, at least in part, on supplemental information received by the second party from the first party.
