Exemplary methods and apparatuses are provided that address how to turn visitor location register location data from telecommunications networks into information that can be aggregated across network switches, accessed by a direct query mechanism or via application programming interfaces, and reported upon from a single point of entry without affecting the performance or capacity of the network switches. Specifically, a Location Aggregation Server is provided that is configured to aggregate mobile terminal location data across multiple visitor location registers and to populate a database with the location information, e.g., an identifier of the mobile terminal and an identifier of a new location of the mobile terminal. Service providers and third parties may be able to search the database, display mobile terminal location data on a map, or aggregate the mobile terminal location data into meaningful statistics.

Location aggregation system

The present invention provides a method involving a femtocell in communication with an Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network. In one embodiment, the femtocell operates according to code division multiple access (CDMA) standards. The method includes receiving, from the femtocell and at a first secure entity in the IMS network, first authentication information generated by the mobile unit using a first random number broadcast by the femtocell in a global challenge. The method also includes receiving, from a second secure entity in the secure network, at least one security key formed based on the global challenge and second authentication information for uniquely challenging the mobile unit. In one embodiment, the second secure entity is a CDMA-based authentication server. The method further includes providing the security key(s) to the femtocell in response to authenticating the mobile unit based upon the second authentication information.

The present invention provides a method involving a femtocell in communication with a secure core network such as an Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network. The method includes receiving, from the femtocell and at a first secure entity in the IMS network, a global challenge including information indicating a random number. The method also includes receiving an authentication response computed by a mobile unit based on the random number and the first key known by the mobile unit and not known by the femtocell. The method further includes determining, at the first secure entity, that the random number is a legitimate random number provided to the femtocell by the IMS network.

A method of processing a call by proxy in a network is provided. The method comprises: receiving a request from a first party for a proxy call on behalf of a second party at a first call control entity, whether or not an active call exists between the first and second parties; signaling the proxy call through the network; and establishing the proxy call to an appropriate destination, such as an emergency call center near the second party.

A cellular system in accordance with the principles of the present invention permits one node, or network element, within a cellular system to request dialed number validation from another network element in the cellular system. The invoking and responding nodes may be any of the following: a mobile switching center, a home location register, a service control point, or a service node. Upon reaching a state in call processing where further dialed number analysis may be required, the invoking node will send an ANSI-41 compliant dialed number validation request message to the node performing validation. The validating node will determine whether the dialed number is allowed under the subscriber's dialing plan. After making the determination, the validating node will return a message to the invoking node indicating whether the specified digits are allowed according to the subscriber's dialing plan.

An apparatus, method and system are illustrated which provide for calling party number determination and manipulation, utilizing digit analysis. One of the switch embodiments includes a network interface, a memory, and a processor. The network interface receives an incoming message having a received calling party number and transmits an outgoing message. The memory stores, as a database module, a plurality of digit trees for digit analysis and a plurality of available manipulations. The processor includes instructions to perform digit analysis of the received calling party number to determine a pattern match and to determine a selected manipulation of the plurality of available manipulations, and to perform the selected manipulation on the received calling party number to form a modified calling party number. The processor includes further instructions, when a pattern match has been determined, to direct the network interface to transmit the modified calling party number in the outgoing message, and when a pattern match has not been determined, to direct the network interface to transmit the received calling party number in the outgoing message. The database module may be modified for calling party number format variability, such as for international use.

Telecommunication calling party number determination and manipulation

In a telecommunication switching system the telecommunication software is implemented by means of independent software components referred to as objects. The objects communicate with each other by messages and symbolic names only. A runtime system includes a runtime linker which registers the systems components and records a data pointer to the components data. To communicate with another object, a source object transmits an executable expression, called a message, to the runtime system. The message includes the symbolic name and the identity of the method of the destination object. The runtime system serves only a single processor or group of objects and calls the destination object, by means of the identity of the method and the data pointer if the destination object is within the group of objects served by the runtime system. In the case a destination object is located on another processor, the runtime system will broadcast the message to other processors. In each of the receiving processors, the runtime system searches its linker table for the symbolic name of the destination object of the message and if found calls the destination object on the basis of the method identification in the message and the data pointer information in the runtime linker. Interprocessor messages include a source processor designation and the run system of each of the processors records the name of the source processor and the symbolic name of the source object when an interprocessor message is received. This table is consulted before broadcasting a message to a non-resident destination object and a direct processor-to-processor communication is established, instead of a broadcast, if the symbolic name of the destination object is recorded together with the corresponding processor identification, in the destination table.

A telecommunication and development system for the switching of voice and data under computer control in a customer programmable environment that allows real-time modification of communication services. The computer program controlling the system is written in a nonprocedural language that allows for the direct control of the telecommunication system on the basis of state definition, event definition, and action definition. Program scripts define a particular feature, and each script consists of a plurality of triples that automatically respond to the system state and signal information to execute the necessary actions to provide part of a feature to the telecommunication system. During provision of telecommunication services, a customer can add new features that not only add new operations to the system, but modify existing operations without interfering with the present operation of the system. This is possible since the nonprocedural language allows for the direct control of interaction between features and provides for the automatic execution of required operations during state transitions. In addition, the nonprocedural language allows a feature or script to control its own deactivation or activation. Also, the software development environment is based on a standard operating system allowing for ease of development. The above features allow a customer to program his or her own individual communication unit to provide desired features without affecting the operation of the telecommunication system or the features provided to other customers.
