A transport carrier (i.e., an armored vehicle or any mode of transportation) may be equipped with cash storage and recycling capabilities. The transport carrier may be equipped to replenish funds as needed and/or pick up a surplus of funds. The transport carrier may be in communication with a financial institution and/or a central server. In some arrangements, the central server may dynamically route the transport carrier to cash handling devices as various locations in order to efficiently meet the needs of the devices and associated clients.

System and method of providing replenishment and pick-up services to one or more cash handling devices

An electronic process to capture, track and monitor unique identifying information regarding automated teller machine (ATM) deposits. ATMs equipped with radio-frequency identification (RFID) or other remote identification technology may enable the electronic transfer of key data elements to general ledger and asset tracking processing systems.

An aspect of the invention provides methods and computer media to support on-demand transportation shipments, supply order requests, change orders, and reports. A bank and business partners may coordinate so that a client can schedule pickups of deposits, delivery of change orders, transportation shipments, and reports. When at least one deposit is created at a banking center for one or more banking customers and an aggregate deposit amount exceeds a predetermined amount, an on-demand pickup of the deposits at the banking center is automatically requested. Also, an on-demand pickup of deposits may be automatically requested at a bank customer's location when the aggregate deposit amount exceeds a predetermined threshold. Moreover, an on-demand change, supply order, or report order may be automatically submitted when available cash is below a predetermined threshold. The available cash may be based on a total amount of cash or on a currency denomination amount.

Providing earlier funds availability or a line of credit for a deposit or other monetary package reported to be in a cash supply chain. Later, when the deposit physically arrives at a bank vault, then the actual amount of the deposit is reconciled against the accelerated funds or line of credit previously made available. The amount of accelerated funds or line of credit made available may be based upon the amount scheduled to be deposited, as well as a risk score for the customer making the deposit and/or for the transaction being made.

Extension of credit for monetary items still in transport

A method for predicting future cash supply chain status includes tracking a plurality of monetary packages as they move along a cash supply chain. An quantity of monetary items that is estimated to arrive at a point along the cash supply chain on a future day, can be determined, based on tracking the monetary packages. Actions can then be taken based on the estimated quantity of monetary items. The calculation may be further based on expected positions of additional future monetary packages that are scheduled or predicted, based on history, to be received into the cash supply chain.

Prediction of future cash supply chain status

An aspect of the invention provides methods, computer media, and apparatuses to generate notifications to verify processing of a deposit or change order along a cash supply chain. A user is provided automated alerts that are responsive to detected events, where an event may correspond to an occurrence happening or an occurrence not happening within a predetermined duration. Notification settings may be configured based on a user input. Based on the notification settings, status information is monitored from stages along the cash supply chain. When a corresponding event is detected, a notification is automatically sent to the user over a communications channel.

A method for predicting client funds positions includes predicting an expected future change in funds for a selected party, and creating a funds estimate for the selected party at a specified time. The predicted future change in funds is based on a transaction history of the selected party, and the calculation is based on the expected future change in funds. The change in funds can be a deposit or withdrawal. Such deposits or withdrawals can be in the form of monetary packages, which enables incorporation of monetary package tracking features into the method.

An end-to-end currency handling and management system and method include a recycler system configured to receive currency, deposit the currency into a desired account and make the currency immediately available. The currency may, in one or more examples, belong to an employee at a business. In such instances, the recycler system may be configured to deposit the currency into an account, such as a pre-paid cash card account, designated by the employee. This allows an employee to avoid carrying large amounts of cash which may lead to loss or theft. At the same time, the deposited currency would be available for use by the business for conducting other transactions.

Cash handling facilities, such as cash vaults, receive and process large quantities of cash. The cash handling facility may have a plurality of custody points at which the amount of cash being processed is verified, counted, stored, or otherwise processed. Cash handling personnel that are handling the cash may be verified, detected, or otherwise documented as handling the cash. Automatic identification techniques may be implemented to track the cash and cash handling personnel at various custody points within the cash handling facility. A centralized tracking system may use the information obtained at each of the custody points to track, count, and verify the cash while it is located within the cash handling facility.

An armored carrier or other transport entity may scan a remotely-readable identification tag, such as a radio-frequency identification (RFID) tag, of each monetary package being picked up and/or delivered. The scanner used by the armored carrier may notify the armored carrier if one of the monetary packages goes out of range without being checked out, such as within a period of time. Also, if that monetary package is not returned within range within a particular period of time, the scanner may automatically notify a centralized system. The scanner may further be aware of scheduled monetary packages to be picked up. If not all of the monetary packages as expected are picked up, then the scanner may also notify the armored carrier.

Monetary package security during transport through cash supply chain

The movement of physical cash and/or other monetary items along the cash supply chain requires security. Some security includes the continuous recordation of video or other images to provide a visual history of the activities that occurred at a particular location along the cash supply chain. By automatically identifying an item at various points along the cash supply chain and associating it with a particular timestamp, the relevant portions of the video surveillance may be quickly and efficiently identified when a suspicious event occurs.

As deposit bags containing monetary packages arrive at a cash handling facility contents of the deposit bags are inspected and assigned to a teller for processing. An automatic identification system may detect the presence of the deposit bag, the monetary packages, and/or the personnel handling the cash at various custody points at the cash handling facility. Such information may be used to determine the priority at which the monetary package may be processed. Further, a plurality of tellers may be assigned to process the monetary package in the cash handling facility. Each teller's workflow may be tracked based on the presence of monetary packages that are already being processed at the teller's station. Therefore, the monetary packages may be prioritized and may be assigned to a teller that is capable of handling the processing of the monetary package.

Content-based prioritizing of deposits

A monetary package capable of detecting and communicating tampering is described. The monetary package may comprise a container having a volume configured to hold monetary items such as currency, checks, and negotiable instruments, a sensor configured to detect an opening of the container, a device coupled to the sensor and configured to store data responsive to the sensor detecting the opening of the container, and a transmitter configured to wirelessly send the stored data.
