Systems and methods of the present disclosure enable drive filtering with reduced common mode and differential mode harmonics using a drive filter including, common-differential mode inductors connected to an alternating current (AC) power source, where each common-differential mode inductor has a common mode inductance and a differential mode inductance. A differential mode capacitor is connected to each common-differential mode inductors for filtering the differential mode inductances. A first common mode capacitor is connected to each common-differential mode inductor for filtering the common mode inductances, where each first common mode capacitor are commonly connected. A second common mode capacitor is connected to each common-differential mode inductor for filtering the common mode inductances, where each second common mode capacitor are commonly connected. Output contacts are connected to the common-differential mode inductors to connect a load to the AC power source.

In some embodiments, the instant invention provides a drive filter that includes: a plurality of input contacts configured for receiving an initial three-phase alternative current from a three-phase alternative current power source; a plurality of output contacts configured for outputting an output current to a respective phase of an adjustable speed drive, where the adjustable speed drive has a direct current bus capacitance between 1 and 30 microfarads (uF); and a plurality of electrical connections, where each electrical connection is configured to connect each input contact of the plurality of input contacts to a respective output contact of the plurality of output contacts; and where each electrical connection consists of at least one line capacitor; and where the at least one capacitor has a capacitance value such that a total harmonic current distortion (THID) of the output current is reduced to 5 percent or less.

A filter for filtering a three-phase electrical power waveform produces a three-phase output power waveform. The filter has an inductor with three sets of first and second coils, each having a capacitor connected in series therewith. Each of the three sets of first and second coils has a tap intermediate the first and second coils where the output waveform is present, each tap capable of being connected to a load. In some embodiments, the inductor is passive adaptive and includes resistors for reducing current in-rush.

In one embodiment, the instant invention can provide a harmonic mitigating device that can include at least the following components: an active filter; a passive filter; c) at least one control switch, where the at least one control switch operationally controls whether the at least one active filter or the at least one passive filter can be utilized by the harmonic mitigation device to mitigate at least one harmonic current flow, and where the at least one control switch operationally switches the harmonic mitigation device from utilizing the at least one active filter to utilizing the at least one passive filter when a current load exceeds a predetermined percent of a full current load.

In one embodiment, the instant invention can provide an inductor that at least includes the following component(s): at least one FAP positioned along at least one magnetic flux path; where the at least one FAP is a high permeability core gap piece; and where the at least one FAP has an effective magnetic permeability that varies based on at least in part on one of the following factors: i) at least one magnetic flux through the at least one FAP, and ii) sufficient heating of the at least one FAP.

An inductor includes common mode and differential mode flux paths. The inductor comprises a first core having a first segment, a second segment extending from the first segment and a first bridge segment extending from the second segment; a first wiring arrangement at least partially disposed around the first segment; a second core having a third segment, a fourth segment extending from the third segment and a second bridge segment extending from the fourth segment; and a second wiring arrangement at least partially disposed around the third segment; wherein the first segment, second segment, third segment and fourth segment cooperate to promote the common mode flux path, and the first bridge segment and the second bridge segment cooperate to promote the differential mode flux path.

The magnetic core and electrical coils of a multiple phase inductor are held together by a non-magnetically permeable retainer. The retainer has a base with a cavity that receives the magnetic core and has U-shaped arms that form channels which guide and align the components during assembly. A retainer cap snaps onto the base in a manner that retains the core elements and electrical coils. An electrical terminal block also snaps onto the cap for easy assembly.

A harmonic current filter includes a first and second power system connectors and first and second load connectors, wherein the second power system connector is directly connected to the second load connector. The filter has a magnetically permeable core with three legs. A first line winding is connected between the first power system connector and the first load connector and is wound around one leg in a manner to produce magnetic flux having a given polarity. A capacitor and a first shunt winding are connected in series between the first power system connector and the second load connector. The first shunt winding is wound around another leg in a manner to produce magnetic flux having an opposite polarity.

A three-phase filter has first, second, and third power source connectors and first, second, and third load connectors. A separate phase line filter is connected between each pair of power source and load connectors. Each phase line filter includes a line winding connected between the power source and load connectors for a phase line and includes a first shunt winding, resistor and capacitor connected in series between that load connector and the load connector for another phase line. The line and shunt windings for a given phase line filter are wound on a core in directions so that one winding produces magnetic flux having an opposite polarity to the magnetic flux produced by the other winding. The magnetic coupling of those windings, mitigates harmonic currents that otherwise flow in either direction between the power source and load connectors.

Three-phase harmonic reduction filter for bidirectional power converters

An electrical inductor assembly has a plurality of three-phase inductors on a common core. Each inductor includes three coils wound around separate legs of the core. Core bridges extend across the legs to provide an inter-leg path for the magnetic flux produced by each coil. The magnetic flux from all the coils of adjacent inductors flows through a common core bridge in a manner wherein the magnetic flux in the common core bridge is less than the sum of the magnetic fluxes in each leg.
