A payment reader and a POS terminal may communicate over a wireless connection. The methods and systems include monitoring one or more parameters corresponding to a payment reader and another device in proximity to POS terminal. The POS terminal, through a set of customized instructions, determines whether behavior of the second device substantially corresponds to the first device, in order to detect suspected hardware or software intrusion associated with the secure device. On successful detection of a suspected intrusion, the POS terminal generates an alert for a user of the first device if illegal intrusion is suspected by the processor.

A payment reader and a POS terminal may communicate over a wireless connection. The methods and systems include receiving, from POS terminal, a request for establishing a network connection with the payment card reader. The server determines whether the payment card reader is associated with the POS terminal or a payment application thereon. If the payment card reader is not associated with the POS terminal or the payment application thereon, the server determines the probability of the request being fraudulent.

Fraud detection in portable payment readers

A payment reader and a POS terminal may communicate over a wireless connection. An original state of the payment reader can be used to determine a behavioral model, wherein the behavioral model defines an expected behavior of the payment entity. The system and method include detecting a change in the original state of the payment entity, wherein the change in the original state is triggered by another payment entity not authorized by the merchant; comparing the change of the original state with a threshold deviation defined by the behavioral model; and if the change of state is not within the threshold deviation, performing one or more actions to revert the payment entity to the original state.

Systems and methods for identity authentication verification are disclosed. First image data corresponding to a first image is submitted in response to a request to authenticate the identity of a user of a device. A second image is captured shortly after the first image is captured. The first and second image data and/or metadata associated with the first and second image are compared and analyzed to determine if the first image is an authentic image captured by a camera of the device and if the person depicted in the first image is the user of the device.
