Adsorbents for removing anions of a heavy metals and methods for using same are provided. Metal removing adsorbents comprise a porous material in which at least one oxygen-containing compound of iron, copper, aluminum, titanium, and/or zirconium is incorporated. The oxygen-containing compound may be incorporated into the porous media by impregnation or dispersion of a suitable precursor of such a compound. The precursor may be further treated to yield the oxygen-containing compound. Such adsorbents are particularly useful for removing arsenic and/or selenium from the environment and may be used in treating drinking water sources.

Adsorbents for removing heavy metals

A method and recyclable magnetic adsorbent are provided for removing contaminants from a fluid stream that has by-products. The method includes providing an adsorbent material that has incorporated at least one ferromagnetic material. Contacting the ferromagnetic adsorbent material to at least a portion of contaminated stream to adsorb the contaminant. The contaminated adsorbent is then separated from the by-products using a magnetic separation process. The adsorbent is recovered from the solid by-products and reusable in the present method.

Adsorbents for removing heavy metals and methods for producing and using the same

The present invention is a reactive adsorption process for separating NO (NO and NO /N O ) from N O in a mixture. The process comprises (A) selectively converting NO to NO /N O in a mixture with an oxidant and (B) selectively adsorbing NO /N O from the mixture by an adsorbent and &copy; recovering a stream of N O having a substantially reduced NO concentration. The adsorbed NO can be recovered from the adsorbent by elevated temperature, reduced pressure, inert gas purge, water wash or any combination thereof.

Process for separation of NOx from N2O in a mixture

A process for producing an enriched gas stream substantially continuously in first and second adsorption zones by (a) serially passing co-currently a gaseous mixture containing the gas to be enriched through a first adsorption zone having a primary adsorption column and an auxiliary column under pressure to produce an enriched gas stream; (b) discontinuing the flow of gaseous mixture prior to breakthrough and immediately thereafter equalizing the pressure in the first adsorption zone with the pressure in the primary column of the second zone by substantially simultaneously (i) equalizing the auxiliary column from its outlet to the outlet of the primary column substantially to the same pressure in the primary column of the second adsorption zone, and simultaneously equalizing from the inlet of the primary column of the first adsorption zone to the inlet of the primary column of the second adsorption zone; and (ii) pressurizing the auxiliary column of the second adsorption zone substantially to the same pressure in the primary column of the second adsorption zone; (c) venting the first adsorption zone counter-currently to atmospheric pressure; (d) purging the first adsorption zone; (e) concurrently with steps (c) and (d), pressurizing the second adsorption zone with feed gas mixture to the adsorption pressure and producing enriched product gas from the outlet of said second adsorption zone; (f) pressurizing the auxiliary column of the first zone with enriched product gas and equalizing the primary column of the first adsorption zone with the second adsorption zone pressure and repeating steps (a) through (e).

Gaseous mixtures are separated on a two zone (two columns connected in series per zone) carbon molecular sieve pressure swing adsorption system to produced a gas stream enriched in at least one component. This process includes the partial pressurization of an adsorbent zone with lean gas in the range of 40 to 90 percent of the adsorption pressure.

Gaseous mixtures are separated on a two adsorption zone carbon molecular sieve pressure swing adsorption system each zone consisting of either one or two adsorption columns. This process includes the pressurization of an adsorption zone with lean gas in the range of 70 to 120 percent of the adsorption pressure.
